Any App State fans planning to spend the weekend in Atlanta should book their hotels early. Labor Day weekend usually books up and with Dragon Con, Tennessee fans coming to town for the Chick fil a Kickoff and Black Gay Pride already scheduled, downtown hotels will be hard to come by. I believe there is also the Alabama-FSU game that Saturday night. Lucky for me that I have family in Alpharetta.AtlantaMountaineer wrote:Any App State fans planning to spend the weekend in Atlanta should book their hotels early. I live in far WNC and almost everyone is either a Clemson or UGA fan. All of northern Georgia is redneck 'shoot first don't even bother asking questions later' types and these are the folks that fill that stadium on Saturdays in Athens.
No polite welcoming fans like the Clemson game experience or last years Tennessee game.
Watching safely on ESPN in WNC is the place to be for this one.

I had a very different experience the last time we played in Athens. The Dawg fans we met were gracious hosts and treated us to some fine tailgating. I'm looking forward to another trip to Athens.HighlandsApp wrote:luvyosef wrote:Awesome news. Grilling and chilling for this one. Have no love WHATSOEVER for all things UGA and Athens, GA. It should be noted that Georgia is one of the states that grants reciprocity for NC concealed carry licensees. If you're thinking we don't have our share of rednecks - and perfectly "normal" people - with concealed carry permits, you're kidding yourself. Every fan base has its morons. I don't recommend aspiring to that title in one's words or actions.

Yes, but putting your family in a situation of excessive alcohol, big egos and guns is not a good receip for fun and safe experiences.

I was raided a Georgia fan (father is an alum) and I have been to many games, including the App game in 2014 when I was wearing black and gold and sitting with my Uncle in his Bulldog Club seats. Your experience is absolutely NOTHING like what I have seen there. To the best of my recollection, the consensus after the last game was that they were excellent hosts.HighlandsApp wrote:luvyosef wrote:Awesome news. Grilling and chilling for this one. Re: UGa game kick off set
FYI...the rule that is quoted above permits those with concealed carry permits to carry on campus. In case you aren't aware of this, the law prohibits a person who is carrying concealed from drinking. You are not allowed to have alcohol in your system AT ALL. My point is that this rule does NOT allow for the mixing of alcohol and weapons at the tailgates. Just saying.HighlandsApp wrote:/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Readers digest version of Daphne's point...Don't be a dumb ass poor representation of App State and you'll be O.K.DaphneUrquhart wrote:I had a very different experience the last time we played in Athens. Consuming alcohol while in possession of a firearm is illegal. Carrying a concealed firearm in Georgia without a concealed carry permit is illegal. You have nothing to worry about. If someone really wants to do damage laws aren't going to stop them and God forbid you find yourself in a situation like that, you might be glad the guy next to you is packing./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Alcohol, firearms, competitive football, in general a very divided nation...What could possibly go wrong?appvette wrote:I knew about the law change... but thinking there's any significant risk of getting shot because we pull of the win?/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dawgna ... ndguns/ampappvette wrote:Please tell me you're jokingluvyosef wrote:Awesome news. It's easy to carry...it's a constitutional right. It's much harder to shoot a person... especially if all you've done is take the necessary measures just to carry and go to the range to shoot at targets occasionally. I would hope the person next to me has the testicular fortitude to aim and shoot back, but I'm not banking on that to happen.

Well I did say might. But I still feel that having the option to shoot back is better than not having that option and being at the complete mercy of some crazy person trying to do harm./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:I never said there would be drunk people carrying firearms though....CheckYosef94 wrote:Consuming alcohol while in possession of a firearm is illegal. In all seriousness, we're all at risk everywhere we go every day for bad things to happen to good people - either by accident, malice of forethought, or just bad luck. Most of us do what we can to stay safe - no drinking and driving, no texting while driving, etc.
I plan to be in Athens. I plan on seeing the Mountaineers have an 11 win season. I plan on seeing my grandchildren graduate from college (the oldest is 4). Time will tell if all of those will come to pass. In the meantime, I'll do what I can do and won't worry too much about those things beyond my control.

Re: UGa game kick off set
I carry a gun almost everyday. Not because I feel like I need it but I like to be prepared. I don't really think my house is going to burn down either but I still have a fire extinguisher. I've taught many women how to shoot and have helped a few get their concealed carry permits. Women are naturally smaller than most men wanting to do them harm (I'm a small guy myself) and I find that in a bad situation a firearm is a great equalizer. Plus it's always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.DaphneUrquhart wrote:FIFYCheckYosef94 wrote:

Re: UGa game kick off set
I learned from having three brothers who are all roughly a foot taller than I am and from playing on the men's club water polo team in college that life requires certain equalizers for me to have a chance in some competitions. I love to shoot and have slain many a cardboard target in my day. The other things I find enormously helpful are enough smarts to know when to step away and all of the extra "brothers" the App family has given me who always have my back.CheckYosef94 wrote:I carry a gun almost everyday. Two of our grandchildren are already Yosef members. I'd be surprised if App isn't in the running when college choice time comes.
