Fan Fest 2017
Fan fest is this weekend. I really don't feel like this has been marketed at all. I know my family will be there. This is always a fun event, excited to see the video board in person, as well as meet the players. Just feel like they should have marketed it more. Who else is going up? GO APPS!

Our family will be there. Looking forward to being in the High Country for the weekend. I hope it's well attended but regardless I'm sure we will have a good time.

Re: Fan Fest 2017
I wish they did the event during the day so it would be feasible for a day trip. Waiting until 6 pm makes it hard to justify for someone like me coming from Raleigh. Spend enough on hotels during the actual season. Would be very doable if it started mid afternoon. Also agree with the original OP that I never feel like we market this to people outside of Boone.

Re: Fan Fest 2017
I was disappointed when they stopped including a scrimmage for fanfest. It's really just for the kids now it seems.

I don't think they haven't marketed it well at all. It used to be a big event. We got a scrimmage and even the band played. I remember they had a concert one year. Now it seems like they really don't want to do it.

Re: Fan Fest 2017
FYI for those planning to come up, this is move in week/weekend. The upperclassmen with the leases on the 1st have been coming in but those with leases starting on the 15th have been hitting it hard the past couple of days, and tomorrow starts the dorm move in. Be prepared for game day like traffic and a LOT of cars and people who have no idea where they are going. Just a heads up.

Someone who knows more, please jump in -
I've heard that a scrimmage counts as a practice to the NCAA, so Satterfield opts not to burn a practice just for Fan Fest. Plus, I understand that some schools hold a "skills competition" instead as a way to get around it while still giving fans something to enjoy.
I'd love it if Fan Fest became a big event again. They could bring out all of Boone's food trucks (the town has 5 or 6 now) onto the track along with some local beer vendors - AMB, Booneshine, etc. In addition to a skills competition with the current team, they could even do a brief "Old-Timer's Game" of flag football featuring former players. Top it all off with the BOD and you've got a fun afternoon in God's Country.

Re: Fan Fest 2017
Agree, the mention of FanFest was a fly-by at best with minimal time to plan. We already had reservations in Boone for last weekend when we heard of FanFest this weekend. We had to stay with our reservations and can't do two weekends in a row. Also this weekend is a beer festival which wasn't advetised very well either. Traffic will be CRAZY.

That at least makes sense as a reason not to have a scrimmage. I hadn't considered the possible impact on practice limitations. It would be nice if they had something targeted at making the trip worthwhile for adult fans. Even as much as I love going to Boone, driving 5 hours round trip for autographs (not really my thing) and bouncy houses is not worth my time.

High Country Beer Fest is next weekend, if that is what you were referring to.ApexASU wrote:Agree, the mention of FanFest was a fly-by at best with minimal time to plan. It's been a while since I have been to the Fan Fest... do they no longer scrimmage/practice? What is the agenda for tomorrow?

Re: Fan Fest 2017
Yea the bookstore has not been open on weekends for months which is insane. Fanfest used to be a hot commodity when they had a team scrimmage and a concert in KBS later that day. Now it definitely is more of a kids event. I can see why they no longer do the concert because they weren't charging therefore that was not a cheap bill for the athletic department and I understand Sats thought process on the practice. Still sucks though.

Re: Fan Fest 2017
FYI just drove by the stadium and the boys are practicing. Gates are open and there are people sitting in the bleachers watching.
