Okay, so a quick check on NMSU and their games so far. They have the conferences best running back in Larry Rose III, but until last week he hasn't been utilized much. They have become pass happy and have attempted 202 passes in 4 games. The best team they have played is Arizona State (yes ASU) and the other ASU is currently ranked about 8 spots ahead of us in the massey rankings. They lost to the other ASU 37-31 but scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter in order to make the score respectable. They are averaging almost 500 yards per game and 353 of it is through the air. Troy's defense held NMSU to 382 yards with only 51 rushing, and Troy controlled the clock and ran the ball well on them in Troy's 27 to 24 win. We will be favored, but I wouldn't expect to win by the amount we won by last year. I also think if we come in flat we could get beat. They have a 6'6" receiver who will post up and play jump ball with you, and it looks like they have some speed. I think this NMSU team is hoping to get into a track meet and hopefully outscore their opponent. We will need to be able to run the ball to give our defense a break. We will need to score points efficiently (meaning with 500 yards of offense we should have at least 35 points). Our defense will be tested, especially by air, but don't forget about their first team all conference running back.....

Our D has shown up for every game so far, so I feel confident they'll put a reasonable cap on the offensive performance of NMSU. Hopefully the offense that played against Wake shows up again. I think they've hit their stride and things are going to start happening. I expect a good game though.

NMSU's record doesn't do them justice. They barely lost to both Arizona State and Troy and utterly destroyed UTEP. This is going to be a matchup of two teams with chips on their shoulders grumbling about the P5 wins which slipped through their hands (And in the Aggie's case a win which would have put them probably on top of the conference). We should beat them but this is not the same team that's been lurking around the FBS basement the last several years.

Utep is very low in the power rankings, plus Utep had 5 turnovers and only put up 227 yards. Disaster.

Let's not jump out of our seats folks.

In the ASU game, NMSU was down 37-13 midway thru 4th qtr and then NMSU scored 3 TDs, the last as time expired. Clearly that game was over and ASU packed up and went home early.

UTEP is very very bad.

It is fair to say NMSU played good against Troy and NM.

Every remaining game on the schedule will be tough. We are the hunted.

Yeah and right above them is Texas State and well we know what almost happened there. Aggies did what they were supposed to do. I wouldn't overlook them, they're a solid team this year.
