Anyone ever frustrated by defensive secondary lowering the shoulder and not wrapping up the player with the ball? Happened several times yesterday on #1 for nmsu. Curious, I watched the first score of Miami game just now. Secondary came up and made the hit at the line but just by lowering the shoulder...when I. First saw hit I cheered and turned to my neighbor next to me as if the play was stopped...then next thing I see...a guy in the end zone. Sure, I can be guilty of armchair quarterbacking but am I missing something?

No you are not missing a thing. Watch a Clemson game to see the difference. They hit low and wrap up. We hit high and either try and knock the guy down or grab him around the shoulders. In my humble opinion if you hit low and wrap up he can't keep the legs churning for another 2 or 3 yards or more.

If anybody watched the N.C. State game last Thursday they gave a clinic on tackling. What hurt Louisville was they couldn’t break any tackles and had very few yards after catch. Textbook tackling.

Would love to see the statistic for yards after contact. Lots of arm tacking, especially linebackers.

I'll tell you that little guy for NMST #1 made our guys miss on several occasions - he was impressive - I have always thought that Springer was out best open field tackler and he was left sprawling a couple of times - Give their guys credit ---

I would say that tackling (or lack there of) kind of goes with the level of athlete. You probably see better technique at the Clemson's and Alabama's as they tend to have more skilled guys. Not always but probably more often than not. I'm sure it hurts quite a bit to actually tackle a guy running right at you! Lol

We didn't do a good job of tackling but those backs for NMSU were the real deal.

Sometimes the tackling effectiveness is a byproduct of the "angle" the defender has on the ball carrier. I am not making excuses as I agree I have seen too many times where we didn't wrap up the ball carrier. However, if the defender is not getting a good angle then it looks like he didn't wrap up. In a case of Clemson or Alabama example the defender may more likely be in a better angle than our guy may.

If you are fresh, you move your legs to get to the right position, wrap up, and make a sure tackle. When your gassed, you don’t move fast enough to the right position and your forced to try to bring them down by reaching out with your arms. Our defense was gassed at times during the game and NMSU #1 and #3 were fast.

Absolutely. Only had one year to show his stuff with Satterfield calling the plays and was stuck behind the worst OL in App State history.
