I encourage you to take a look at the Georgia Southern boards and then come back and talk of our woes.

Re: Struggling with the worst team in the entire nation????
Moose could verify this info but to the best of my ability this is what I found ---
APP Defense today --- 12 Fr/So registered stats !!!
APP Offense today --- 6 Fr/So registered stats !!!
APP Special Teams today - 4 Fr/So played !!!
APP Team today --- 10 additional Fr/So either started or played !!!
That's a lot of youth racking up quality playing time ---

I'm a pretty big naysayer and doom and gloom guy. But for FFS we are 5-2. With one of those losses coming to #3 Georgia. Who aside from Notre Dame has beaten every team they've played worse than us.
I'd like to see us win more emphatically, but whatever, a W is a W. I like this team. They are scrappy as hell, beaten nearly to death with injuries and keep finding ways to pull out the win.
And personally I love how much playing time our Freshman players are getting. We're going to be loaded in a year or two.

I rarely post on this board and usually I just pop in to read the threads. I of course opened this one after reading the title and proceeded to read the comments (many of which were negative). It is amazing to see the negativity towards a football program that since 2015 is 24-2 against peer G5 competition. Two losses were against Arkansas State in 2015 and Troy in 2016. What does that mean? It means App State football is really good. However, if you are to read many of the posts you would come away with the thought that this program is terrible. At the end of the day this team is 4-0 in the conference and is 1 win away from bowl eligibility. For an App football fan there is much to be happy about!

Bowl eligible is over rated. Very average teams make the bowls.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 6:20 pmSome people on this board need to get a clue. App is a “terrible team”? They are 5-2; one win away from bowl eligibility. This would be their third bowl game in three years of bowl eligibility. That is almost unprecedented success.
Is our O-line weaker than last year? Yes. Is the ground game disappointing? Yes. Is App a terrible team? Scoreboard, y’all.

TL to my knowledge has not been boo’ed and who the hell is a naysayer? Why can you not discuss strengths and weaknesses and not be considered a supporter? Get over yourself

Re: Struggling with the worst team in the entire nation????
Considering how many injuries we have and issues with the special teams and we're still pulling off W's. I'm not going to complain. We're still a tough team, and seeing that we've had to adjust and get into more of a passing game than a running game isn't all that bad. Anyone who has watched our games this year have noticed several instances where the running game wasn't being effective. We aren't going through the Sunbelt like a juggernaut, but if you look at the rest of the teams, everyone is winning one week and then losing the next week. I don't know if that means we are all on an even playing field or if all of the teams are bipolar, however being 4-0 in this environment isn't bad...not to mention we're one win away from going bowling. I know we're having issues but we need to put it into perspective. We're still finding ways to win and at the end of the day that's the important thing...and we're doing it with our backups...I would think in the long run that only helps add to our depth if we're winning with 3rd and 4th stringers.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 10:21 pmI'm a pretty big naysayer and doom and gloom guy. In regards to that worst team in the country, it wasn't that long ago that we were in that same boat at 1-5, but figured things out and turned it. We were always going to get their best shot and they may have just started figuring this FBS thing out as well.
If Chadwell takes over as HC full time, they are going to be a damn good team
At the end of the day, we're 5-2. I'll take wins any way we get them, however stressful they may be

Re: Struggling with the worst team in the entire nation????
In a nutshell: At the beginning of the season many thought we were a top G5 team, and at the time, we probably were. However, over time (due to injuries, etc.) it appears we are a middle of the road G5 team (looking at the "big" picture, that is). Being in one of the weakest FBS conferences (if not the weakest), given our situation, does help. At this point, I have two questions:
1. Will we win out? Regular season, that is.
2. Why so many injuries? I realize injuries happen. However, I've never seen a team have this many injuries over half a season.
What do you think?

I don't beleive that we are average. When you factor in the fact we are 5-2 4-0 with mounting injuries, I would argue that we are a better than average team that is finding a way to win despite playing short handed. It's hard to say if we will win out. Depends on how nagging the injury bug is. Personally, I would be willing to take a loss next week if it gets us healthy to finish the conference unbeaten.

And we will be bowl eligible for the third year in a row, and we will go to a bowl three times in our first three years of eligibility. That is very above average. We are one of two teams in the running for the conference championship.AppinATL wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 8:10 amWould you rather not be bowl eligible?bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 11:08 pmBowl eligible is over rated. Re: Struggling with the worst team in the entire nation????
We are a bit spoiled. Our luck has come full circle on the injury front.Only one of our preseason offensive "weapons" was on the field at the end of the game. One.Chadwell prepped and called a great game.He is an outstanding young coach .The Myrtle Beach Sun gave us major accolades, as did he and their players. Everyone realizes that we could easily be 0-4 in the conference? Oh yes , our freshmen backs showed more "pop" than either of the upperclassmen, and the best one as I am told is still redshirted. The bottom line my friends is that this 2017 team isn't the 16,15 or 06 , it's not even the August of 17 team. It's a team of coaches and kids working their tails off in difficult circumstances to represent our university, and all of us. How the season will be remembered years from now is yet to be determined ,my best advice is to realize how fortunate we are and enjoy what we have, while we still have it.

Re: Struggling with the worst team in the entire nation????
At this point in the season I hoped that we’d be 6-1 with a win over Wake and a more dominant performance in conference play. I thought our Oline would be a stronger point to support the run game given the players that were coming back this year but that has not happened. All in all you’ll hear zero complaints out of me, we’ve won the games we are supposed to win so far.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 9:01 amAnd we will be bowl eligible for the third year in a row, and we will go to a bowl three times in our first three years of eligibility.
