I respectfully disagree. It was shoulder to shoulder. I don't doubt he was injured before and the hit was unneccesary but that was all that was wrong with it.

Ugly, ugly half of football from both sides. That hit on Ford wasn’t “dirty” but will be called every time in today’s game. The hit on the opposing sideline was stupid, no need to give them anymore fuel. We have become more undisciplined and one game it is going to bite us in the @$$. That being said, the wind is absolutely playing a part in kicking and the throws, we have to keep them in check if we wanna have a shot in the 4th.

Yes, it was shoulder to shoulder, but the way that caused the head whip, you can see on the replay it caused the helmets to come together...bad description on my part by saying "helmet to helmet" above as if that was a bad play on Stout (not my intention)...but the helmets banged and if the QB was woozy that finished him off...
Initially, I was like "what, THAT hit knocked him out?" But then on the replay I saw the helmets bang. BUt Stout in no way led w/ the helmet.

I am all for player safety but the hit on the UMass Qb was totally legal and did not deserve a penalty. When did the QB start wearing a non contact jersey in a live game? Shameful call.
