Fair enough - I also felt like 10-2 was very realistic with 11-1 not far fetched - I felt 9-3 would be the target - anything less would be disappointing - Of course, all of this was before we did not have our 2 play-making WRs out for the year - also before Jalin got banged up and missed a lot of time, also before Upshaw was lost for the year + other happenings - Would I have expected 9-3 or better knowing all of this before hand - I would not have ---App91 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:27 pmOnly my personal opinion--i had us a 10-2, losing only to UGA and Wake. I hoped we would and thought we could beat Wake, but i knew it was not a great chance. Our conference (and rest of non-con) should have facilitated wins, based on past performance. By and large, our conf schedule was against the lowest half of the league and we did not get the two powers. We have struggled with each, lost to a 1 win non con. opponent, and now let a lesser opponent beat us. I struggle with the playing poorly vs. that's just truly who we are. And if that is the case, why have we fallen so far so fast?WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 10:13 am91 - would like for you to answer the question posed above - that would give me a little more perspective ---App91 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:02 amBarely beat the little sisters of the poor, barely? Lose to a 1-win team and a team who had lost the last 3? Sorry, youth-whatever. Injuries, every team has 'em. Flat out-that aint getting it done. Where does the buck stop?
Don't look now but we have the same conf record as GAst. We both beat Coastal and they beat LaMon. Based on peformance, that is going to be a very difficult game. Southern will be balls out to get their lone win against us, and LaLa will be terribly difficult. The bottom could drop out of this quickly.

I'll give you a few, and again my opinion
Offsides on a special teams play when it literally cost you the game a few weeks prior.
Running plays up the gut when the line is not getting it done, then keep running them there.
screen passes that are in the dirt and over heads. For that matter, dropping passes.
False starts
Unsportsman conduct
Tackling is getting worse-I would love to see the stat for yards after contact. I don't know where to get that but it has to be huge!
2 fumbles in one game, turn around next game and put it on the ground with first touch.
Just a few, things that i know i have talked about through the year, except the last one. more time and i can think of more.

Re: OK you guys - BOOKMARK THIS THREAD
How many offsides on special teams have we had? Enough to qualify as a problem? Some of those screen plays that are in the dirt and over the head are due to just throwing it away because nothing is there. Running the ball when ther is no hole seems to be a blocking problem due to inexperienced on the OL and the unfair comparison to the holes that were opened up by the experience group last year. The poor tackling is a problem, but you don’t work on tackling during the season. Time is limited per rules and it is spent on game planning. But a problem for sure most undoubtedly due to young guys in the wrong position. As for the fumbles. Yeah I get it but we couldn’t run Williams every play last week and we had no other options. If you noticed, I don’t think he came back in after the fumble this week.

I can sure agree with you on tackling getting worse. If you hit the legs and wrap up there is no gain after contact. When you hit high that is when you get the yards after contact. (and sometimes get thrown out of the game).App91 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 7:13 pmI'll give you a few, and again my opinion

Re: OK you guys - BOOKMARK THIS THREAD
OK - thanks ---
--- I remember one offsides on a punt and it was huge but I could have missed others ---
--- Running plays are what we use to set up our entire offense - sometimes they are stuffed and that could be for several reasons - defensive stunts, missed blocks, missed reads, missing the hole and not having Cox and Moore as RBs - the zone read offense is not designed to generally go in one spot - the RB must give some time for a crease to develop - sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't - that is what made Marcus so good - he wasn't in a hurry to turn it up - Moore is also very good at that but the younger guys just don't have enough experience yet but you are correct that we haven't had the same success this year as last
--- Dropped passes happen - hey the Panthers would have lost today except All-Pro Julio Jones dropped a wide open TD pass in the end zone - we are also playing 3 freshman at WR - passes in the flat are not Taylor's strong suit - however some in the dirt and over the head passes are always the wrong pass to make
---False starts - if it is the same guy or two then that would be a concern and honestly I don't know whether it has or hasn't been
--- I am with you 100% on unsportsmanlike conduct - as a coach I would have no tolerance - although do I pull Boggs because of one? - probably not - actually, absolutely not - if one player has multiple then in my mind that is a problem that has be dealt with
---Poor tackling is another agreement I have with you - the really good defensive teams rarely mess up in this area - that's what keeps a 3rd down play from being a 1st down or worse - however, there isn't much that can be done from week to week - I will say this, in my opinion Stringer has been the best open-field tackler I have seen in some time - not having him out there makes a difference in many ways ---
--- the 3 fumbles by the true freshman have hurt but this is a very touchy subject - the coaches don't want to hammer this kid very much in that area for a couple of reasons - he should be red-shirting as a true freshman and probably had that mentality until a couple of weeks ago and if the kid weren't talented he wouldn't be out there - fine line here in my opinion - I am sure we will see him again this season and let's hope he hasn't lost his confidence ---

Tackling problems are often a result of not being able to catch up close to a runner. When you are a half a step behind, you can't wrap up.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 8:13 pmHow many offsides on special teams have we had? Enough to qualify as a problem? A penalty that still wakes me up at night is when we hit the UGA QB OUT OF BOUNDS on a 3rd down play where we would have held them to three straight 3 and outs in 1st qtr. Not to mention hurting the QB which woke UGA up!

Go back and look at the he play again. He came up lame before he was touched. The hit was stupid. But we didn't injure him. It was divine intervention to get Fromm on the field for a National Title run.

Of all the penalties we've had this year, I don't know why that one haunts you. Yeah, it was unfortunate but it was more of a push than a hit. Saying it "woke Georgia up" implies it was a motivator which it really wasn't. What it did do what introduce Fromm who (as it turns out) is a better QB than Eason. I don't think anybody expected that. Personally, I think Georgia should write App a big check for that one. I'm joking...but I really don't see why that penalty would stick in someone's mind (other than Eason's).appstate77 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:48 amA penalty that still wakes me up at night is when we hit the UGA QB OUT OF BOUNDS on a 3rd down play where we would have held them to three straight 3 and outs in 1st qtr. That penalty is similarly haunting as the hit on UMass' QB, replacement QB comes in and the rest is history.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 11:44 amOf all the penalties we've had this year, I don't know why that one haunts you. The play that haunts me is the offsides on 4th and long as Wake was lining up to punt. At that very moment, up until the snap, We had all of the ‘mo in that game. With that one play, the Wake game and possibly our entire season turned.

That one would be the play for me as well. What made it worse was that it was evident from my chair st home that he was lined up offsides and no one yelled for him to move.

Re: OK you guys - BOOKMARK THIS THREAD
Here is a great example of bad tackling technique. Last year against Miami, on the first offensive play from scrimmage, it wasn't a bad angle when AJ Howard directly hit RB Walton with his shoulder at line of scrimmage at a good angle and then failed to wrap him up. Walton basically bounced off him and ran untouched for 80 yards for a TD. This is not an anomaly for Howard. Howard has consistently done this throughout his tenure at App, hitting guys even low but seems to never wrap them up, thinking his hit alone will bring them down. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. How does the guy never FIX his technique? Why do the coaches not FIX it?

Watch first play highlight at Howard's great tackling technique.
In fact, watch some more of the video and you will see other poor tackling later in game, and a face mask penalty while we are at it. So don't tell me this stuff is new for this season. We have been watching some of this for years.

Granted, A.J. Howard's performance against Miami was memorable for the wrong reasons. But if we're being honest, he's having a pretty darn good season this year.
