I think Blair's decrease in TFL/sack production (3.5 sacks, 11.5 TFL freshman, 3.0 sacks, 8.5 TFL sophomore) was more a product of not having Dan Wylie and Chris Aiken clogging up the middle than his playing weight. His overall tackles went up from 40 to 60 and IMO, he is our best defensive lineman and should stay on the edge.ASU_MBA wrote: Woody likes speed off the edge, judging on the play last year I am pretty certain Harris is not a speed rush guy and would not fit a DE in his system. Also Blair played heavy last year and provided little if any pass rush off the edge.
Those two will need to play a lot faster if they want to hold down a DE spot.
Blair needs to get back down to 255-260 like his freshman year then maybe have the speed for the edge.
I do love that Deuce is moving back to the DL and based on what he has said on Twitter, he's working out to gain some weight. He played at 245 last season and I think he'd be a nightmare coming off the edge at 6-5, 260.
I trust that Coach Woody will make the right call but I wouldn't be surprised to see Deuce and Blair starting at DE with Greg Hall and Greg Milhouse backing them up. That would leave Harris, Burns, Bronson and Small to battle it out for the NT spot.
