Can't ever recall one of our players transfer, and in doing so, thinking they were going to a higher talent level conference. First time for everything I guess? On the opposite end of that spectrum, we've had some gem tranfers land here. Gonna start with Lynwood Robinson...subject hijacked

Re: App vs Iowa St
Well, we know we can score. OTOH, we need to find some inside play and play some better defense.
I would say based on three games thus far this team has a chance to entertain. Whether that translates into wins remains to be seen. We certainly appear to have a dynamic guard duo.
Today's game may be a better indicator of our mid major status.

Have to believe we will only improve and that we haven’t plateaued. Guard tandem does look solid. It goes without saying that we have to knock down free throws. When you are down 15 or so, make a little run to cut it to 10 with plenty of clock left and the opponent is in some foul trouble don’t jack quick threes! Go strong to the basket!

Re: App vs Iowa St
This game was yet another example of Fox's inability to coach. Our 'team' is lost on offense. Throwing up 3's way to early in the shot clock and absolutely no effective ball movement. Lots of 1x1. It's like whoever has the ball in their hand at the beginning of the shot clock is determined that he is the one who's going to score. Never, ever, ever make the extra pass.

Ah all of the proclaimed coaches on this board! So knowledgeable and all. If you are going to comment, please know the game or sport of which you speak.

This is a team that we should have or could have beaten .. instead we look just a smidge better than last year... sooo disappointing.

We were exposed badly in the paint .ISU came in at 0-2.Free throws are a "fundamental", like "blocking out"...I think I agree with the need to play Zone. The first two games did nothing for us in reality. Looks like we will live and die by the 3....

Re: App vs Iowa St
We scored 98 points, I'm not going to complain about the offense. Defense needs some work, perhaps a zone defense like some have mentioned would help. Don't have a strong post presence, but a lot of teams are going to a 4 guard/wing offense, so not sure how important that is the way the game is trending.
And I'm not sure what was expected, because we have been awful leading up to this year. What I saw was a much improved team, possibly above .500 in conference. It's the first time in a while I've been able to actually watch them play in a really long time.

Re: App vs Iowa St
This has kind of been our trend under Fox. Defense a little lackluster, Poor Shooting overall due to high percentage of shots from behind the arc. Kinney was in foul trouble, so there goes our rebounding.

I know I'm old-fashioned, but I like to reserve judgment on a season until after the team has played more than one D1 opponent.

Re: App vs Iowa St
I'm actually encouraged by last night's performance. A 6 point loss to a Big 12 opponent when it's your first game against a D1 team. My expectation was that we'd lose by like 20 or 30 but we were in the game late challenging for the win. Also, ISU didn't have some key players in their first 2 games that they lost, the Lard kid and another I don't remember. Lard made an impact both on offense and defensively for them so I suspect they're way better than their first 2 games indicated.
Real hyped about Forest, he's a player that will take some of the pressure off Shabazz. Clearly, the team has some work to do but seems like the talent has improved.

-Zero low post presence
-No threat of offense in the half court
-Can’t guard the dribble drive
-We jack 3’s like it’s going outta style
- #1 True Fr. Point Guard looks promising
-Hard to have low post presence with Kinney in foul trouble, and now that Tyrell plays more on the wing
-I'm not sure anyone in college basketball at our level can guard the drive
-Analytics says that three point shooting pays off over time.
-Forrest and O'Showen will be dynamite in the Sun Belt.

Re: App vs Iowa St
We usually have waited until the second half of the conference season to throw in some zone. Last year we used something that resembled a 1-3-1. You do that when you cant guard, but we will be better on defense this year. We played a pretty talented, but young Iowa State squad.

Re: App vs Iowa St
Defense is pretty terrible and gave up way to many wide open shots. If we aren't going to play zone, I'd like to see them go to a havoc D. It was disappointing to see us set up a full court press only to allow them to bring the ball up the court uncontested for the most part. There were several instances where I thought they could have trapped the ball to try and cause some turnovers. What's the point in setting up full or 3/4 court if you aren't going to actually press? I mean if we are going to give up 100 points, I'd like to see our team applying a lot of pressure and forcing the opposing offense to scramble.

Re: App vs Iowa St
Guys, this is a Big 12 team that is a perennial Tournament team that we went head to head with. I know they're young and 0-2 coming in, but they were also short handed the first two games AND recruit on a totally different level.
We also had our share of youth on the floor with Issac Johnson (So.) O'Showen Willaims (First year So.) Zack Cottrell (RSFr.) and Justin Forrest (Fr.) playing big minutes. Had Kinney not been in foul trouble we may have pulled this out. They had a match-up advantage down low with him on the bench, but as soon as their big fouled out we got right back in it.
Let see how we do to against Western Michigan before we jump off the bandwagon.

Re: App vs Iowa St
Woah woah woah guys I think some of you took my message the wrong way. I'm simply not wanting to get my hopes up about Forrest because I think there's absolutely a real chance he could attract bigger attention after this year if he keeps playing like this. Players transfer in college basketball like none other (one of the reasons I'm falling out of love with the game at this level), and I think being a big name due to his dad could warrant some attention from bigger schools. I'm not bad mouthing Coach Fox or our program, I just think it's complete BS how WE'RE the school that found him and gave him a chance, but other schools think it's okay to just swoop down and pick guys like this up after they see what he can do. It's like us mid majors work as a big farm system. I simply don't want to get my hopes up because I'm afraid him transferring could legitimately become a possibility (like Good last year)
