Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
That's fine hap. My point is, if you want to say the broader perception of us isn't as favorable or far along as we fans would like to think, then I agree. But I don't think that just because pollsters don't think we're as good as San Diego State or Western Kentucky that that makes it true. Sometimes perception isn't necessarily reality.
For the record, I hope we never find out how a G5 playoff would work anyway.

A playoff would take it out of the hands of the pollsters and any other rating system. There really is only one way to tell if we are as good or better than someone and that is to play them.EastHallApp wrote:That's fine hap. Fornelli 50 has us at #14. Take a look at it. In front of a lot of bigger named schools.

The U game answered some questions. We are always going to be a second class citizen in the current environment. Money says so.

I guess it comes down to being a second class citizen in a first class league or a first class citizen in a second class league.

The real thing about polls is that they are accurate if you like the results and not if you don't.

Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
I don't like polls for most part just like most of us.
But the politics of the NCAA and TV and other powers that be are hard to overcome with solid resolution. Even if larger better constructed playoff system is implemented the G5s are still going to be subjected to limitations ......And also I am not in favor of a separate G5 set up.

The heck of it is about being a football second class citizen is that it will not ever get better than it has been over the last two seasons. News Years Day bowl not likely No more National Championships...ever, unless a mountain is leveled and you can become attractive to a P5. Status Quo.

Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
The harsh reality with college football is that it all comes down to only about 10 teams every year. You always get that new guy or a known name who is "supposed " to really do it this year- Tennessee, but always fizzles. Houston and Louisville were the rage until what, about game 9? Our reality is that for any type of national recognition we simply can't lose a game, especially a conference game. We have to knock off UGA and Wake to get on the radar. I believe we are a top 40 program which means top third. That ain't too shabby. If we had gotten 2 votes are we hanging a banner or something. Don't get me wrong the voting thing is BS and no way we drop after a Bowl win but at the end of the day (and season) does it really matter?

Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
No, 2 votes wouldn't have mattered. I think the issue is there are teams that got 30+ votes or even were actually ranked with 100+ votes whose resumes were no better than ours. That shows we still have a perception issue to overcome.bigdaddyg wrote:The harsh reality with college football is that it all comes down to only about 10 teams every year. Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
I am not surprised. Our body of work for 2017 included one signature win in bowl. All our wins were against extremely weak opponents. Neutral observers just see us under perform against an overall VERY weak schedule. I said this throughout the season, we were barely beating weak opponents and lost three games we should not have lost. If we ended 13-1 and rolled most on our schedule then we would have an argument. We finished strong and got a share of SBC title so the team salvaged the season but we still under performed overall.
On scheduling, since we already play in a weak conference we are going to have offset that by going a bit heavier/tougher for OOC games. That means drop FCS guys just to make up for weak SBC schedule if we want to be considered in the top 25.

Re: Final AP Poll.... No votes
If you lose to someone like UMass and can't beat a P5 team like Wake, you ain't getting no votes. Destroying Tulane was the perfect way to finish, but you're going no where if you can't beat a P5 team. Next season will be a rebuilding one, so I don't see us nowhere close to top 25. Can still win SunBelt though.

LOL, re-reviving the zombie thread. You're probably right about next season, might as well bookmark this one to bring back again in 2019.MountaineerChemist10 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 10:37 amIf you lose to someone like UMass and can't beat a P5 team like Wake, you ain't getting no votes.
