You mean this one, that we dodged as it went up the stands?

That's the one! I actually think that game was in '11 instead of '09. I'm pretty sure that's the season that we made it to every game on the schedule, home and away.

Yeah, you are right that is from '11 not '09. Not sure if that is the same one you are talking about Gonzo.NO.2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:35 amThat's the one! "We" didn't snag it from the cheerleaders. We "found" it lying on the floor in the men's room and decided to show it some Mountaineer "respect".

Yeah that's the same one. That's the banner. I wasn't about to touch that thing and get kicked out or arrested.
Speaking of arrested: the '09 match featured Elon QB Scott Riddle. At the '11 meeting, Riddle was an alum enjoying the matchup in the Kidd Brewer East press box/club area, where my buddy (appftw) saw him and determined pretty easily that he was intoxicated. Early the next morning Riddle got in a bar brawl and got stabbed three times. This is the same guy who started the biggest brawl in SoCon baseball tournament history.
I'm sure he thought there was NO WAY the '11 game could go any worse for him than the '09 meeting where he was picked off three times. He was wrong.
I miss Elon.

Re: ECU Home Game Moved to 2023
Playing at UGA or Clemson is fairly redundant. Even as App has more talent than every at every level of the depth chart, these are games that just get away from App. I'd much rather see a H/H with Boise State or a regional, mid-tier P5.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2018 1:20 pmI hope you're being facetious.ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2018 12:21 pmNot sure that would be any reason for excitement.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 9:37 pmLooking at our history, I'd think Georgia or Clemson might be frontrunners...that's based on zero facts and merely assumption. It'd be a nice assumption though.

Again, i'm not sure what App has to gain from playing Clemson other than a pay day. To me, those match-ups are the obligatory games that occur but really mean nothing for either team, in most cases. Home and homes with power G5 (USF, Houston, Navy, Toledo, Boise St.) excite me far more than games against Clemson or UGA. I only followed the FCS when App was at the level, now the only games I watch intently are Sun Belt and G5 match-ups.firemoose wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2018 2:27 pmNot trying to feed any hysteria. My last post was 5 posts in and all I said was
Nothing in there was hype. Just a point of fact. The hysteria happened all on it's own. And my next and last post was just a few ago and asked for patience. Nothing is done until it's signed. Clemson was just a "rumor" until it was a game. NC State series looked like a done deal until it wasn't. No organized effort to keep information from anyone. Just no reason to get everyone all up and, as we all know will happen, have people start going after other teams fans (see the Ga Southern reference above) if the deals don't happen.firemoose wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 5:24 pmSorry. I would say (if it was a done deal) and I think most will be happy. Last word was the deal was signature ready but given nothing is official until ink is on paper you never know what could happen. But barring any last minute issues I really expect it to be announced soon.

Ericsaid, respectfully...I'm fairly certain you're in the minority on this issue (and that's ok). Those games give us a payday, allow our players to play against the best talent in the country, can help out with recruiting (I personally don't place as much of premium on this as some do) by allowing you to say "we'll be playing a game against your home state powerhouse when you're a senior", and if you play well can garner you some national attention. Not to mention if you can pull off a home and home series with a big boy the enormous economic boon(e). So while you're likely to take a L, it does have big potential.

Plus, if you win ones these caliber games, then run the table, you will find yourself ranked and possibly playing New Years Day. I know it's a long shot, but I think we have to give ourselves that opportunity as frequently as possible.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:14 pmEricsaid, respectfully...I'm fairly certain you're in the minority on this issue (and that's ok). G5 games are likely very fun for the majority on here (self included), but unfortunately we aren’t the majority of the alumni base.

Home and Homes are nice but they don’t pay the bills. While a H&H with UCF/USF won’t net the money earned from a P5 money game.

The extra 10,000 tickets we sell for Wake, Miami, UNC-CH or whom ever at $45 a ticket plus extra concessions sales are likely a bonus $500,000 after extra expenses verses a game against UMass or Akron coming to town. Besides the extra season tickets sold in order to ensure being able to attend.
The bummer is paying out $350k for a SCState as GaSo just announced.

Re: ECU Home Game Moved to 2023
Just curious there Mr said. Why exactly did you quote me (took my post out so it wouldn't be so long)? I would love for you explain that one and how it ties into this post since Saint mentioned nothing about Clemson or any game, just talked about the hysteria that was going on with the guessing. And my only reference to it was in response to questions about why I haven't said who the game is with. Until ink is on paper nothing is official. I used the rumor of that game and of the State series to show that, while both were real and could have been mentioned long before things transpired, it was a prefect example of one ending up true and one that fell through. Interested to hear the relevance of quoting me to your view of money games.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:00 pmAgain, i'm not sure what App has to gain from playing Clemson other than a pay day. So what is the revenue stream from a home game minus operating expenses?HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 7:16 pmThe extra 10,000 tickets we sell for Wake, Miami, UNC-CH or whom ever at $45 a ticket plus extra concessions sales are likely a bonus $500,000 after extra expenses verses a game against UMass or Akron coming to town. Hey Moose, what is the harm in telling what is in the works as long as you stipulate that it isn't official? I have great respect for what you do and know you have a good reason.. just curious

It is difficult to control information when it gets out in a somewhat “controlled” environment. Speaking in possibilities to some doesn’t guarantee that it isn’t spread as a certainty to others.

Because someone will start tweeting the opposing fan base or start running their mouth over a series that may subsequently fall through. On many occasions (in all facets of business) deals fall through because one side or the other can't control information.

I had been hearing rumblings of a potential home and home with South Carolina but have not gotten any details about dates or any confirmation this is a done deal. By the looks of this ECU move, could be the home game in Boone is 2025.
