Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
Not a fan of our game times. Cray that UALR beat ULL last night, but still best team for us to open against.
They’re playing better basketball since Andre Jones their leading scorer was released. Particularly the last five games, 2-3 with a positive 4 pt differential. Granted with exception of ULL those were four on underside of bracket. Andre Jones was shooting 16% from 3 on 3.2 attempts :/ Someone mentioned teams getting better with a late season shakeup and they seem to be rolling that way. I think we match up well again if we keep turnovers down and continue shooting well like we have the last few games.
Nothing is a given but if we look ahead to UTA we split series and that second game was trending our way. They’re 6-2 over last eight though, it’ll be tough.

When was the last time we wore white jerseys in a conference tournament game?

If we get to play ULL I would consider it a successful tournament.
Beating UTA will be a tough ask as they will be rested. A first round loss would be very disappointing end to an inconsistent season.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
The way I see it, UALR is a tough first round matchup. They took us to overtime in Boone, we had to come back to beat them by 2 in Little Rock, and it’s hard to beat a team 3 times in a season...plus they have momentum after knocking off ULL....not sure any game would be an easy win, this one included.

Last time I recall was 2010 with Buzz unless we did in Capels first season.

Beating the last place team in conference in a do or die situation should be expected, regular season results be damned. Go App!

2010 SoCon first round vs GaSo (a win) in Capel's first season was white. Wore black in the quarterfinals vs Wofford, then in both games in 2011. Wore gold in both SoCon games in 2012 and Capel's last game in 2013. Then no Sun Belt Tourney in 2014 and 2015, then black last year vs Troy when everything went up in smoke.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
If we play UTA, it’s debatable whether rest would be an advantage for them. You hear all the time how the team that’s already played a game is in better rhythm in those situations. We’ll see (hopefully).
And statistically speaking the thing about it being hard to beat a team three times (or, more to the point, a third time) is a myth.

I believe the myth is it’s hard to beat a good team three times, ULAR is not a good team.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
There are no rational excuses for losing in round one to the last place team in the league. Athletically we matchup well with UTA. That ones winnable if we get there.

2 or more wins- Gravy, contract extension talks
1 win- Expected, but disappointing not to knock off UTA
0 wins- Unacceptable, major step backward, 7 more months of Matt McMahon threads

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
Arkansas State lost to ULM in the 5 vs 12 game last season and as pointed out, Little Rock is playing better. There's good reason to be worried.

We're 12-17 vs. D1 and got swept by an 11-20 stAte team. We have reason to be worried in any game.

With a Richard Morgan & a "UNC" coaches thread that were assistants when we hired INcapelABLE threads.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
We beat LR twice but both games could have gone either way and they are coming off handing Louisiana only its second loss in conference play. Anyone who is looking towards UTA could be in for a rude awakening. Yes, we should be favored to win this game but I would expect a dog fight.

Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
Vegas has App favored by 3.5, so slightly more then the two points from our recent matchup (which they got on the dot lol).
Going by Vegas all the matchups look pretty close, no crazy double digit lines.
Ken Pom has us by 5.

Buzz was coach in 09-10. Capels first tournament would have been 2011, last tourney for him was 2014, then Fox was hired the next month.T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:06 am2010 SoCon first round vs GaSo (a win) in Capel's first season was white. Re: 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament
I was at the UTA game in Boone. They didn’t impress me at all, looked sort of lazy and uninterested. We dominated until the last few minutes when Erick Neal almost single handedly won the game, which is what did end up happening at Arlington. They really underachieved based on expectations this year, especially when you consider that they started 5 seniors.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 8:11 amIf we play UTA, it’s debatable whether rest would be an advantage for them.
