A lot of negativity on this board and post. They played VERY WELL today and hopefully won a few of you that like to complain but probably never have played or coached for that matter!! How about getting on board and cheering this team on!! GO Neers!!
You’d be hard pressed to find a few dozen people that want this program to succeed more than those on the basketball threads.

Where? It's been basically all positive comments except for a few on the first page. Everyone is thrilled with the way we played today, for good reason.

Calm down mom. Not sure what you were reading but the vast majority of comments were positive and I’ve played and coached and you don’t have to have done either to understand good play and mistakes. Our team played and I’m sure had fun with a close to perfect game

I slacked off and watched the game on my comp yesterday while at work. Awesome way to start the tourney. I love how rebounding is our biggest strength, then teamwork. Can definitely shoot 3's when we feel like it. My only concern with our next game is guarding their 6-9 power forward. Dude is a beast and is hard to guard.

Btw when is the last time App went 50/50/80 in a game. Meaning 50%+ from 3 point line and field overall and over 80% at the free throw line?

That slash line is impressive as hell.

Some of us, including myself, have been "on board" for decades, investing time ,effort and finances. And some, including yours truly have played and coached. I believe no one wants a strong program , one headed in the right direction, more than those reading this right now ... and no one is cheering louder.

Looked great yesterday. Just 9 (or 10) more wins in a row and we're National Champs.

Nice start. Had it on my computer at work but the announcers (well, mainly the color guy) were so bad I muted that and turned on the App radio crew even though they were probably a full minute ahead of the video feed.

2 Questions to all and I am sure they both may have already been answered:

1) Why no Thursday game? Really weird structure
2) how do you think it will impact us? Good- rest etc or bad- since we played so well, maybe would have preferrred to keep playing?

The program is finally taking a step forward and could turn it into a leap if they can continue to play like the first round game. Stay hot Apps, there is no team in the Belt that is unbeatable.

Go Apps!

Opening rounds for the women were Tues & Thurs. I actually think this is a great scenario for our squad. Get a day of rest while having gained much needed experience and confidence.

1) Beats me, but I don't mind. Lets me get some work done for once!
2) It's definitely a plus. Allows us to relax, meet together and plan ahead. Arlington will be tough, but are still beatable.

I wish the men played today after the high they were on yesterday.

Hopefully they don't get too high down in NOLA this year.

UTA will be a tough matchup. Need to shutdown Hervey. He got into foul trouble in against us and it helped quite a bit. They have one of the weakest benches in the country contributing just 28.5% of minutes.

In both those matchups against UTA we ran out to decent leads (20 in the win), but then gave them back gradually over course of game. Even in our loss we led nearly the whole game. Up by 6 with about 9 mins left.

Hopefully we can come out strong again for a third time. Given our great play last game and having some experience on the court, I think that'll be the case again.

My biggest concern with UTA is Hervey going lights out and getting some of our bigs (Kinney, Isaac, and TJ into foul issues early). The whole team was clutch last game, but Kinney played fantastic so hopefully he's able to get some serious minutes in.

- Come out hot.
- Shut down Hervey
- Win the foul differential
- Protect the 3-pt line (they're one of the better three point shooting teams in country).

Btw after last game O'Showen Williams and Craig Hinton are both top 400 nationally in three point percentage. Craig is shooting 40% :0

Arkansas State lost to ULM in the 5 vs 12 game last season and as pointed out, Little Rock is playing better. There's good reason to be worried.
We beat LR twice but both games could have gone either way and they are coming off handing Louisiana only its second loss in conference play. Anyone who is looking towards UTA could be in for a rude awakening. Yes, we should be favored to win this game but I would expect a dog fight.
hap, like you, I fully expected a dog-fight out of LR. I don't think anyone expected the break-out game the Apps unleashed. LR certainly wasn't prepared for it. Now, I suspect we'll get our dog-fight out of UTA's Hervey and Neal. The Mav's have been on a roll in recent games. Hervey and Neal have been double-double machines. Hervey seems to have recovered from his knee issues. We need to make them work for their points/boards and avoid long scoreless streaks on our part. Go Apps!
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

There are certainly times when it is good to be wrong! This was certainly one of those. Now having won six of 8, this team is displaying a level of play that we all hoped for this season. Regardless of the result tomorrow, they have given hope going forward that this team can perform at more consistent level. The key will be replacing Kinney next season. Much maligned (and I have been critical at times), Griff has really made a big difference in this team's success in the last 1/3 of the season. Let's hope he gets to extend his career a couple more games.

One crazy stat. Shabazz and Forrest have shot a combined 264 free throws this season at 66%~. Just over eight attempts a game. They were 6/7 against UALR. A similar performance against UTA would go a long way.
