I hope that Thomas Hennigan will suit up for the basketball team and be a 2 sport star at App.

Yes, but can he perform under pressure on the big stage? Oh wait! nevermind.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:29 amI hope that Thomas Hennigan will suit up for the basketball team and be a 2 sport star at App.

He can follow in the footsteps of former NW Guilford 3 sport athlete, Rusty Larue, who went on to get a Championship ring with Jordan and the Bulls.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:41 amYes, but can he perform under pressure on the big stage? Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
As long as it didn't detract from his football, I would be all for it. I imagine Coach Satterfield might not like the idea since it would take him out of Spring Training and conditioning. It would probably be great for the basketball team though.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
Think of the attendance bump it would create if he were to log significant minutes...

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I would be happy with an identity. Be really stingy on defense, be able to shoot the 3 like crazy, run a great motion offense. Something the fans and team can hang their hat on. As near as I can tell, we just roll the damn ball out there and hope some combination of players can wish in enough shots to beat the opponent.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
Winning early in the season alone would generate an attendance boost. String together a few wins and you will see more people in the stands. Sell outs? Probably not, but you will see more butts in seats.
The field in Charleston this fall is stacked (Alabama, Appalachian State, Ball State, Davidson, Northeastern, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Wichita State) with several NCAA tournament teams. If we were to go in there an notch a couple wins over bigger programs that would resonate (e.g. VT redux a decade later).

Not to sound like a broken record, but, wins against west carolina, JMU, etc. would be nice.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I truly believe we will be as good as we were in '06-'07. That season, we easily defeated P5 schools (UVA, UCF, Vanderbilt, VCU)...still can't believe we lost to flipping Charleston.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
A lot of responses are very murky to evaluate from DG’s point of view.
What I want to know is the bottom line for Fox to get an extension. Is that 20 wins plus top 3 SBC reg season finish with SBC tournament champion? There has to be a clear set of expectations not just “better than 2017/18 team”. That is not good enough if I were AD.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I agree. App rarely looked like an actual good team this year. Yes they won some in a terrible conference, but like I’ve been saying, no game ever built upon itself.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 7:15 pmA lot of responses are very murky to evaluate from DG’s point of view.

We won't be much better if any next year. The expectations are low. I am not a pessimist. I am a realist. Having said that, I hope I am proven wrong.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
We appear to be about to roll the dice on Fox in a MAJOR gamble. If his contract isn't extended by April 1, he'll officially be a lame duck coach in the year that he has to recruit replacements for half the team--including Shabazz, Tyrell Johnson, Holley (although he may already be bailing out), Wilson and three preferred walk-ons. That's a helluva task for a seasoned and highly successful head coach. What could possibly go wrong in a "life or death" recruiting year with Fox as a lame duck? Just about everything, that's all!AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 7:15 pmA lot of responses are very murky to evaluate from DG’s point of view.

The pressure on Fox is going to be increasingly insufferable day-by-day going forward! I don't envy the situation he's in one little bit.

Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
So here is a blunt question for you '66, given Fox's 4 year performance to date, do you extend or not? If DG was planning to extend before April 1, 2018 then he and Fox should have had some very specific metrics about 2017/18 season performance agreed in March 2017 so he would know exactly what he is going to do today.asu66 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 22, 2018 10:59 pmWe appear to be about to roll the dice on Fox in a MAJOR gamble. Re: 18-19 Hopes/Expectations
I think that is the million dollar question. Based on what you have seen to date, can you give him a multi year extension? The answer to me is no.
I do hope he has an excellent year next year but it's his best team by far.
