Usually means testing the waters. Going to see what they need to work on for their senior year. If you're not going in the first round your contract isn't guaranteed. So unless he wants to go play in the G league he'll go get some notes and come back to Boone.

This. It's a smart move for any rising senior who hopes to play at the next level to declare and get some feedback. Of course our fan base isn't smart enough to realize that and would rather complain. App State fans, we're not happy unless we're unhappy.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 8:50 pmUsually means testing the waters. Going to see what they need to work on for their senior year. There's going to be a day where an App junior in hoops or football will enter the draft and leave when it makes sense for them to max their earning potential. And when that day comes, no one should fault them.

It's a smart move for him. If he is considered first round talent he can get guaranteed life changing money. If not, he can get great council and return to App for his senior year.

I agree, it's a smart move. Also, I love that our program is producing what seems to be a legit NBA talent...whether this year or next. It'd hurt to lose him if he goes early but I'd only wish him the best and express gratitude for his time as a Mountaineer.

Full speed ahead, Shad. If you emerge as a first-rounder, the entire basketball world will know that you hail from App State. If you pull your name and return to school, next season should be a lot of fun for all App fans. Actually, next season could be a lot of fun either way. Win-Win!

I personally don't think he has nba draft talent at this point in his career. I think declaring to get some input and understanding of what teams want in the pros will help improve his game when he returns (likely) next year.
He has the talent. I think consistency is key for him.

If there was a beer/bourbon drinking professional league, I wouldn’t have had to declare early because yours truly would have been drafted out of high school!

You're right, one can't blame an athlete for testing the waters, but what ever happened to attending college on an athletic scholarship for a good college education?

What happened (as we all know) was 1950s-'60s mob syndicates; high-stakes sports betting; cheating college coaches; greedy parents & college recruits; cheating college players; the NCAA; the NBA & the NFL; the hijacking of the AAU; Nike, adidas, Reebok, Converse & UnderArmour, et al; greedy & cheating college coaches; more greedy parents and college recruits; college and university ADs & presidents hiding under their desks/looking the other way; and the resulting decay of the amateur athletics world. Other than that, everything's just hunky-dory.

Re: Shabazz Declares for NBA Draft-No Agent Hired
Do we know any details? I assume from your earlier post this was all about allowing Shabazz to explore his options without any consequences. I am totally for that as if the kid did have a shot I can't blame him for trying. Apparently there was not enough evidence that it would pan out to his advantage at this time. This is a better way to do it then in days of old where they lose their eligibility for talking to anybody about their future.

If you're not a sure-fire first round pick, it's not worth it to go pro as an underclassman.
