John Weaver to retire
One of the very best App State has ever had. 78 team conference championships. NCAA individual national champions, 43-time conference coach of the year.

Re: John Weaver to retire
What a legacy! From Olympic medalists (Melissa Morrison) to scrawny walk-ons (me), Coach Weaver has left a lasting impact on many, many people. As someone who has now been coaching XC/Track collegiately for 13 years, there is no way I would have made it to this point without the opportunity afforded to me by Coach Weaver. Even though I'm coaching for a different side, I have, and always will have, great pride when I see those black uniforms with the block "A" step onto the track. Here's to one more great season in the sun coach!

Back in the 90s I used to bring my cross country teams to his camp. He's a great guy and a super coach.

Re: John Weaver to retire
I remember him being a GA coach and then Bob Pollack hiring him as an assistant. John has been steady and loyal to ASU all these years. Well-deserved retirement and a first-ballot Hall of Famer if there ever was one.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

My mother ran track for him. She always spoke highly of him

Re: John Weaver to retire
Perhaps a fund raising effort by Alumni and former Track and Field Athletes could be undertaken in an effort to get the new track named in his honor.

Re: John Weaver to retire
In addition to everything else Coach Weaver has done for Appalachian, he also served as Yosef Club Director for several years back in the early 80s. IIRC, he also had a hand in athletic ticket management.
Wishing you all the best, John.
