Yes, I understand indeed. The student section is in white on the south end. The visitor section is in purple on the north end. Unless you guys sell out your entire allotment of tickets, expect the visitor's section to just be NKU and NLU.

If sun is a consideration, note the direction that north points the graphic. If it ends up being a 3:30 or later game, there will be shade on the west side due to the press box as well as much of the lower north end zone being shaded from the upper end zone tier. Labor Day weekend games are typically upper 70s to low 80s. And that big ole metal stadium gets very hot with direct sun.

Also gate A in that picture is the student section entrance, and will be very busy with foot traffic before and after a game (there are intersecting streets there. The opposite corner of the stadium is a grass parking lot)

Altoona to State College is a pretty easy drive on game day. All four lane.

Harrisburg to State College gets tricky about 15 miles outside of State College due to four lane going down to two lane. It'll be worse this coming season due to some new construction building a bypass around a small town that is a major bottleneck and accident prone.

If anyone is coming to the game, I'd highly recommend pre-ordering your parking as it's $20 in advance but a whopping $60 day of game.

How do we pre-order parking?

Call Penn State's ticket office (1.800.648.8269). They're very polite and accommodating. You won't be requesting a specific lot - just general, non-reserved parking. The Family Friendly (no alcohol) lot shows as being general parking but is already full with season ticket holders.

We ordered our parking pass today. It was less than a 5-minute wait on the call. The ticket office representative was very nice, although he pronounced Appalachian kinda funny. He joked that they had just sold out of parking passes when he found out that we were coming up from NC. He said that they would mail the parking pass to us about 3 weeks before the game. I have always wanted to go to a football game at Penn State. Football season cannot get here fast enough!!

We just booked a room at Country Suites... Had a heck of a military discount that we couldn’t pass up. 1.6 miles from the stadium.

Paid for parking too... What is the tailgating plan? Anyone know if the alumni is planning on a tailgate?

The Country Suites is nice. It's relatively new. You're close to Happy Valley Brewing Company and Letterman's, so two solid restaurants. The latter is a sports bar but food is a bit more upscale. Go up the road (away from town) a couple miles and there's a nice place called Olde New York. They have a nice selection of Jewish deli-inspired foods with a German twist (the owners used to own a fantastic German restaurant until the very historic building that housed it burned down). They have gluten-free hamburger buns, too, if that's something of importance when dining out. All three places have ample TVs.

You're also close to a beer distributor (PA's archaic way of getting beer in packs larger than 12). Though they've recently allowed beer sales in grocery stores, too.
