Re: Pizza
That Village Inn used to be the meeting spot for West Rowan students way back in the the 70's. It had phenomenal pizzas and an imported beer stock that was superb. I had a couple Falcon buddies who were also Mountaineers (who shall remain nameless) that used to work there in the summer. Many was the time we would hang out until closing and then help close up the place, whereby the import cooler would then be opened. Good times.....

Re: Pizza
As a Falcon alum from the 90's, Village Inn was not as in fashion. DJ's or Cristo's were the post football game spots in town.scatman77 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 19, 2018 8:31 amThat Village Inn used to be the meeting spot for West Rowan students way back in the the 70's. Re: Pizza
We would hang out there on the weekends even after football season. I even have a piece of "crystal" from there that is used regularly. Knowing who was working there in the summer, I'd go in and sit down with a frosty mug. In a short while I'd hear, "Take out for Smith." Someone would have called in an order and didn't come get it so guess who ate for free?appmaj wrote: ↑Thu Jul 19, 2018 8:36 amAs a Falcon alum from the 90's, Village Inn was not as in fashion. Re: Pizza
Their website still shows it open. I was there last 11-12 years ago. I remember going there with my dad before he passed away. For some reason it seems we are there the day of the JMU playoff game in 07. I may be mixing my memories of that day.
It was a bit run down then, and have no idea they have spent any money freshening up the insides. It would not keep me from the pizza but others may feel different.

Re: Pizza
That and Morganton VI are the two I know I have never eaten at. I think I can add North Wilkesboro as well, certainly that is the case in my adult life.
That is my goal over the next year. Hit all the VI locations.

Re: Pizza
The one in Mooresville could stand a good updating, but love the pizza and the salad bar. They just added beer sales a few years ago. I'm surprised the old VI Chalet in Statesville hasn't fallen in the creek. I swear each time I went there it felt like the floor was leaning more and more.

Re: Pizza
I made a concerted effort to hit a few VI locations after App football games this fall. Some were a bit out of the way but not so bad of a drive that I could not do it. The noon SB championship game heled me get to West Jefferson. They opened up a new location in October in Mocksville.
As I sit here in Mocksville I can proudly, or embarrassingly, say I have now eaten at every Village Inn restaurant in the state.

Re: Pizza
All of the Village Inn locations here in Hickory seem to still be going pretty strong. I occasionally drive by the old teepee location on Hwy 70 West and remember loving that spot as a child...

Re: Pizza
Speedo’s Pizza was good. Sollecito’s was very good. For a really nostalgic cuisine I preferred 2 hot dogs all the way, large fries, large cherry smash from The Pharmacy (us old timers know; don’t need the full name), followed by a warm apple ugly from Granny’s Donuts.

Re: Pizza
I love a good pizza, but where would y'all recommend for wings in Boone? I used to love Murphy's, and miss it terribly. Ransom isn't as good (what replaced Murphy's) and the Rock is nasty.

Re: Pizza
Is that the one that used to be in the same shopping strip as Sky City and across from Hickory Mall?
