Hope not. Let's not act overly shocked or giddy. If it gets in the head of the players, we could be unranked before the t-shirt arrives in the mail.

Agreed! Our team has worked very hard to get to #25, but I doubt that's been one of the goals for the year. The three main goals - win the Sun Belt east, win the conference championship, win a bowl game - remain. Rankings are fleeting; rings last. #BeatSouthernBarefootApp wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:05 amHope not. Let's not act overly shocked or giddy. APPsolutely. Beat Stink. Keep winning. Polls are ultimately superficial. Diplomas, championship rings and trophies are tangible and have an unlimited lifespan.DaphneUrquhart wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:11 amAgreed! I bet Scott and Co are telling them how embarrassing it would be to get ranked and lose to Stink...............

Re: Top 25 Swag
Why are these still our three main goals for 2017? I thought we would be raising the bar by now. No doubt winning SB east, SB championship and bowl are goals but shouldn't they now be a baseline at this point? Since we have done that the last two years, isn't it is time to raise the bar, it should be NY6 now. When we were FCS our goals matured over time to the ultimate goal being a National Championship.DaphneUrquhart wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:11 amAgreed! Ask Nick Saban and Dabo Sweeney what are their goals at start of season, it doesn't end with conference and bowl wins. I guarantee you it extends to winning the CFP championship.
Our goals NOW should extend to NY6 appearance and then win. I know we need some help getting there but it should be our current goal now. Top 25 ranking will be a byproduct of that goal. Does anybody on this board disagree with this statement?
Re: Top 25 Swag
I 100% see what you're saying and am not disagreeing/discrediting your post. Those three goals will likely stay the same each year going forward because they are the only thing we can control. We can control winning our portion of the Sun Belt, making and winning the championship game, and winning the bowl game. We can't control whether or not we make the NY6. I see the NY6 being a goal much like you do the Top 25 ranking above. We can win those and hope the NY6 is a byproduct of that.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 12:32 pmWhy are these still our three main goals for 2017? I thought we would be raising the bar by now. Re: Top 25 Swag
I was thinking those were the controllable goals for 2018 and the ones Coach Satterfield mentions when asked about team goals. Didn't the 2017 season end with a 34 - 0 Dollar General Bowl win?

Re: Top 25 Swag
All I know, when I was younger and in competitive sports, when we were the top of the mountain (no pun intended), you better have brought your best to knock us off the pedestal. There was definitely a different level of focus, similar to being an underdog, but had that belief that no matter what happened in the game, we are supposed to win.
Miss those days. Guess I will just keep living vicariously through my kids.

Don't get me wrong, we still have to take care of business with the three goals you mentioned and I agree they are definitely things within our control. However, you can achieve those goals while losing OOC games and only winning by paper thin margins, but, in that case you will NEVER be considered a serious player on a national level, a top 25 team, a top G5 team (see ULL and Ark State in the years prior to us joining SB) and never get to play in any post season beyond a SB connected bowl.DaphneUrquhart wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 3:37 pmI was thinking those were the controllable goals for 2018 and the ones Coach Satterfield mentions when asked about team goals. However, if you aspire to go beyond above said level, which I do and also think our players do, you have to do more. If a NY6 bowl is your goal, what is in your control is to win most or all of your games and do it convincingly. That still doesn't guarantee you will get a NY6 every year, as other things have to fall into place to help you, but that is what you have to do to achieve your goal.

Not only that, but there were plenty of things on tape from Saturday that need to be cleaned up.

My point was that 2017, as referenced in bold in your post, is over. We no longer have goals for 2017.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 4:52 pmDon't get me wrong, we still have to take care of business with the three goals you mentioned and I agree they are definitely things within our control.
