Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
The top 25 hype did not injure Thomas or cause Fehr to be ejected. Even top ranked teams have a bad day where things just don't go your way. That was not a byproduct of ranking. Ranking, Hype and pressure go along with success, can't be afraid of success. I would rather live at the top and deal with it.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
Before this weekend Clemson's opponents win percentage was significantly higher than Alabama. So if Clemson is playing nobody then Alabama is playing less than nobody.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 4:33 pmAgreed. Heck, look at Clemson's schedule. Not exactly beating power houses.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 4:25 pmCan't be afraid of being ranked. For those that say we aren't deserving based on our schedule, that can be said for many in the 20-40 range.
My biggest take away from that info though is that the tip of the spear is getting even sharper. The top 5 or 6 programs are distancing themselves from the pack of 2, 3, and 4 loss teams below them.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
App has beaten 6 of the teams on their schedule with several being complete blow outs. Say what you will about those teams but App can only line up against the teams on their schedule. Obviously, as fans, we'd love to seem them playing top 40 teams every week but that just isn't feasible unless App somehow gets into the SEC and we all know UNC-C has that spot reserved.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 7:51 amNot being consumed by the hype this time. I love my team but who have we beaten to deserve a top 25 ranking????
I think most would agree that Alabama is the best team in college football this year (and most years) but outside of LSU, who have they played? Both App and Bama have wins over stAte and ULL who combine for a .500 record. Speaking of the SEC, Roll Tide gets to play and beat "big name" programs like Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, TAMU and Missouri. Those "big time" SEC programs are a combined 21-24, so not even .500 and who were some of those 21 wins against? (SIU, Kent, UTM, NWST, UNCC, ETSU, EIU, Tulsa) We can throw Louisville in there too who is a whopping 2-7. So Alabama has exactly 1 quality win against a top 20 team. With the schedule Alabama has played, are they more deserving of the #1 ranking than say Clemson or ND?
Very few FBS teams are going to have a high caliber schedule, especially G5 programs who are lucky if they get to play against 3 quality teams during the regular season. Our guys missed an opportunity to make a statement against GS but up until that point, they had done what was asked of them. Polls are all subjective and biased. It's better for the program to be in those polls regardless of whether anyone believes App deserves it or not.

We got ranked. It was great. Now it's about grinding and working and making sure we have a chance to win the conference. Getting back to being ranked should be the last thing on the team's mind but it's fun for us fans to think about it.

At least next time we are ranked it won’t be AS big of a deal. We had to pop the cherry eventually.

What? This ain't the SEC, and that "logic" is tough to follow.moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 5:25 pmApp has beaten 6 of the teams on their schedule with several being complete blow outs. Anyway, we deserved the ranking at the time, and nobody is implying that we're better off not ranked.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
If you still go along the lines of "the top 25 thing was a distraction!!!" then think about it this way.
We've done it already, got that first out of the way. And we have that experience for next time and will be better prepared.

Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
Nor had the Deathstar beaten anybody until LSU. Everyone is at the mercy of their schedules and committees and voters with opinions. I'd bet most anything Alabama is the #1 team and Clemson is the #2 after 10 weeks of football as a sample size... that's my opinion and I'm sure I'm the only one who cares, lol. My other opinion is we are a top 25-30ish team healthy. Not being a P5 gets us viewed with skepticism in the football world. Still say healthy we beat the Gumroots 9 out of 10 times. We just settled up with the football gods for all our past success that night. Great thing is we aren't graduating 18 starters, so we' reload for next year and the next for runs at the top 25.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 4:33 pmAgreed. Heck, look at Clemson's schedule. Re: Two votes in the coach’s poll
What sucks about next year is that we will curb stomp the Heels and it will be expected so that win won’t help with the early voters. Hopefully we are preseason top 30 so it doesn’t take early ass whippings to convince people that we are legit

What will drag our SOS down the most next year-playing UNC-Cheat or FCS ETSU?

A P5 win is a good win no matter who it's against.
