Teal Turf

Ours was teal because we were broke.

I know you are exaggerating, VA, but we have never been broke. We just had priorities in different places. Athletics took a back seat during Borkowski's term and a front porch (as he used to allude to) under Chancellor Peacock's and various eras in between. For example, science was major driver under Chancellor Thomas. Now we appear to be in an era of both athletics and academics. In my opinion, we are where we should be in that regard.

App really was ahead of the curve in the late 80s and early 90s. We could use our ID cards at vending machines and they are internet connected which back then was way ahead of the curve. There were some issues with research vs teaching load and the promotion/pushing aside of Dean of Arts and Sciences, but Thomas did put his NASA background to good use at App in my opinion.

I look forward to seeing what Brooks stadium looks like after the buildout on the West stands. It's already a very nice venue.

Their concessions, though.

The guy in front of me brought some delicious looking BBQ pork nachos in a little football bowl back from his visit to the concessions.....but he had missed half of the football game. I decided to just drink my spit.

Side note, Yosef kissed my wife under the stands. I yelled down at him, but wasn’t sure whether to be mad or not....thoughts?

I was at the game and to be honest didn’t give the teal turf a second thought other than “oh yeah, they have a teal field”.

She was coming back from concessions and he was walking under our section, my buddy said “look, your wife is getting a picture with Yosef”. Since I was at the railing, I yelled down and said “hey! Watch it buddy, that’s my wife [jokingly]”. He looked up and then he made her take a selfie with him simulating a kiss. The ladies behind me said “at least it wasn’t your best friend”... and I said “Actually, it was like she just kissed my best friend!”. The whole episode was rather comical to our section. I had a good weekend down there, always enjoy my App road trips. Wish I could do more than just a couple per year.

No toungue.... but I’m sure he will request that upgrade to his mascot head for next time.

As I said, teal is or used to be one of their logo colors.

It is their color. They use it like the Tarholes use that baby blue they love so much. Look at anything Coastal. They're super into teal.

Not aware of one. Here's an article on skittles-colored fields. Boise State is the main culprit, but it also mentions Coastal, Eastern Washington (that god-awful red), New Hampshire (blue again), Eastern Michigan (gray, which makes it look like the movie Pleasantville, with characters in color in a black-and-white world) and the very bizarre Central Arkansas (purple and gray stripes). https://amp.ncaa.com/news/football/arti ... urf-fields

Vegas stadium is over the top. Can see the Raiders following "suit" with their field design in Vegas state of the art new venue, albeit with of course silver & black color schemes

I think Coastal's Teal is the least distracting of the bunch. Once the game started, I pretty much forgot about it. The also use Teal on the outfield wall of their very impressive baseball stadium.

I waited 5 minutes for lemonade just prior to kickoff. I didn't visit concessions after that, but the lines were daunting at halftime.
