Beat Texas State!!
Just announced that Zac Thomas will be the starting QB on Saturday! Maybe that's why the spread is up at 21 1/2 points now. I wish I could make it out to Texas for the game, but we are saving up for the bowl game trip and hopefully a home game on December 1st.

Watched last year’s game over the weekend.
This will still be a tough game but having ZT back is a huge plus.

Re: Beat Texas State!!
Wish y'all could come out. Us Austin and North Texas alums will be out there. FYI the BBQ tailgate is really fun down here. We had a nice crowd (by middle of the country standards) last year.

Hope that our D stays healthy and no ejections. Therefore shuts them down. We need some spy on their QB and some INTs.

Likewise, hop over to the official tailgate if you aren't. I'll have my whole family there (4 strong).

Re: Beat Texas State!!
We struggled with their mobile QB last year. I think it is a different QB this year but he sounds mobile as well. Our defense is much better this year though

My girlfriend and I (...She's an ArkSt grad but is wearing Black & Gold...) are driving down from Dallas. We just got our tickets as well to the Alumni tailgate. We'll see you there!

We also have to hope our WRs (and TEs) get our passing game going. No more drops/bad plays.

Re: Beat Texas State!!
I'd recommend not parking/tailgating in the Mill Street Lot. With the crowds we've had this year, you'll have the whole parking lot to yourself and it won't be a great experience. I'd recommend parking/tailgating in the Coliseum Lot. There will be a lot of TXST tailgaters out there but you'll be fine and you'll have way more fun. The worst you'll get is a drunk frat kid saying "App State sucks", but for the most part people will be glad to see you made the trip.
The Coliseum Lot is separated from your Alumni tailgate by a set of railroad tracks so you'll have to walk up to the stadium to cross them. It's not a very long walk.
If you have any other TXST/San Marcos questions or recommendations, let me know.

ESPN is currently giving App State a 93.3% to win over Texas State on their matchup predictor. The spread is still at -21 today.

Re: Beat Texas State!!
Texas State has a pretty solid Defense but they have serious problems on Offense. I think we could win with Huesman if we had to but it might way tighter than we would like. Hopefully the passing game is in full swing so we can mix things up.
Last year's game against Texas State was an anomaly though. App was seriously flat and out of synch in that game. The Texas State QB threw one very nice long TD which he apparently couldn't duplicate for the rest of the season. He did have a career day against an "off" App team.
21 points seems pretty high but hopefully we are back in form. The game plan against Louisiana was run heavy from the start because we wanted to eat clock and keep their O off the field. It's a different situation this week, so it will be interesting to see how we look.

Massey Power Rankings give us a 96% chance of winning with a 23.5 point difference and the score being 34 to 10.....87ASUgrad wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 7:53 amESPN is currently giving App State a 93.3% to win over Texas State on their matchup predictor. The spread is still at -21 today.

Re: Beat Texas State!!
I suspect we'll limit Thomas' carries, for obvious reasons. In the past when we've done that, our running game has struggled because it becomes too predictable. As a counterbalance, we're going to need to get our passing game back in gear.

I think TXST has 2 injuries on the Dline. Our wear-down strategy may work a little sooner this time.

Re: Beat Texas State!!
We didn't biggie BUT, Zac was dinged up in S. Alabama game and it got worse through concussion. He took that shot to ribs at Penn St, several shots in S. Al game, Louisana game- he got hit VERY hard on TD throw to Evans.
