Re: Early: possible replacements?
I don't think there's any way that DG would bring in a coach who would make wholesale system changes. Our roster is built for a 3-4 and we don't have the personnel to go back to a 4-3 right now. On offense, I can't imagine anyone messing with our style of spread. They might even broaden it and do some of the things folks have been wanting to see. Have faith.

We have a winning system 11-2, 10-3, 9-4, 10-2. Keep the culture (Mountaineer family). Find a coach that is passionate about our special place. Keep the schedule and playbook. Keep early spring practice and 5 months straight of S&C. Keep the recruiting system to identify, evaluate and recruit quality character ball players. Choose speed over size, bet on players that will give their all. Look for assistant coaches that will do more than is expected. Heck, I think I could do it if surrounded by caring people. We are in a good position.

In his press release, DG alluded to keeping things the way they were with someone familiar with the way things are already.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 8:18 amWe have a winning system 11-2, 10-3, 9-4, 10-2. Re: Early: possible replacements?
IF Brown were to go to Louisville, I would be shocked if it is a DC. He has one year of experience in the job and the base would go nuts if he was hired in at that position. A side note, while I agree that we need to try and keep Brown, do any of you think that he is a long term piece to the staff? I think that he will be gone in two to three years. He is young, talented, and his star is on the rise. Elevating him to HC ensures that we are doing this again in a couple of years. The Rock wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 8:36 pmHe could probably make more as DC at Louisville than HC here. And as much as i hate to lose him, if he’s not ready to be a HC, hiring him as a HC just to keep him isn’t doing the team or himself any favors.
Seems like a certain orange sweater boy tried that one time. Can’t remember how it turned out...

The odds are, if we continue to have this success, we are going to be doing this every 3-5 years. It's just part of life. I want to do it every 3-5 years, because it means we've continued to ascend, not stayed the same.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 8:44 amIF Brown were to go to Louisville, I would be shocked if it is a DC. And I don't think Louisville fans will complain about hiring a DC who coached one of the top defenses in the country after they had Todd Grantham and Brian Van Gorder for the last 5 seasons!

Maybe. In my opinion, it’s either Horton or Sloan and then everyone else.

Re: Early: possible replacements?
Everyone stumping for Ledford should go look at our OL depth and recruiting issues under him. Players like Noah Hannon would have never been offered by Ledford because he didn't fit his criteria. Under Clark we have better depth than we've had in a while

Re: Early: possible replacements?
You mean all the O linemen that went to the NFL under his guidance? Also, that was part of our transition from an FCS roster to FBS and he would have no control over the depth at that point. He had one of the top ranked offensive lines in the FBS and has continued that success at NC State. I will agree, though, that Clark is a great O line coach as well.
Here's a good article regarding both Clark and Ledford.

That’s all good if someone doesn’t want to change it and make it their own. I feel good about what you said and agree. I just am worried someone will want to make it their own.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 8:18 amWe have a winning system 11-2, 10-3, 9-4, 10-2. Keep the culture (Mountaineer family). They're going to want to make it their own...that's for certain. Ideally, you have someone who gradually does that though, and really just adds on to what we're doing, not wholesale changing.
I wouldn't mind someone who was more adept at the passing game. Our offense struggled once we lost our workhorse back in Moore. It would be nice to be able to beat people by throwing the ball when its needed. I felt like we were heading that way after Penn State and Charlotte, but it's clear that wasn't the case.

Re: Early: possible replacements?
Losing Moore hurt, but is was more than that. We had games without Zac, games with Zac less than 100% and games with VJ less than 100%.

Re: Early: possible replacements?
I agree wholeheartedly. We need someone to manage a clock and not take his foot off the gas. I just don’t want to go away from the spread and have wholesale changes to where we aren’t competitive next year. I will be the first to say that Satt wasn’t perfect and no coach will be. So let’s make those things better without re-inventing the wheel. That’s my hope.appgrad wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 9:58 amThey're going to want to make it their own...that's for certain. Re: Early: possible replacements?
My dad went to Xavier, and in the 40 years I've known him, the only sports team he has ever really been passionate about is Xavier basketball. Every 5 years or so as long as I can remember, Xavier's basketball coach would leave for a bigger paying job, and they would bring in someone else who would keep winning. They even lost their alum former player "dream job" coach to Louisville this year like us.
One thing I've learned from that is to take these coaching changes in stride, and to view it as a good thing for the school. I asked him once if he was ever sick of losing their coach to Wake or Ohio State or whoever, and he said "No, because it means X is winning and good coaches know they can go there and win and get a higher profile job. What you don't want is a coach who is content to stay forever, because the program will become mediocre." Like Blake Anderson at A-State - not good enough to move up but too good to fire.

Re: Early: possible replacements?
Thats why Ledford could keep clark on as the OL coach. Our run game and NC States run game was/is doing well with Ledford leading them, and Clark is a great position coach. seems like a win/win

Has anyone heard anything about Horton? Has an interview been scheduled?

Not sold on Ledford but I am not going to say know if he is the best available. He did bring in some good lineman, but for every Kobe, there were a few Kwamis.

DG has been pretty quiet on the process but I am sure that he is working on it.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 10:33 amHas anyone heard anything about Horton? Has an interview been scheduled?
