Re: Josh Gattis
Doesn’t matter how long they stay if they win, just make sure we do a better job negotiating the buyout.
Re: Josh Gattis
Yeah… Can’t imagine why we would want to hire a guy who had the foresight to pluck an obscure assistant off of Texas Tech’s staff, who then turns into a coaching superstar. At this point the success he had ECU can be attributed to Lincoln Riley right?

Re: Josh Gattis
So Ruffin is an average coach who hired one outstanding assistant that ran a system completely opposite of what we have found success with, is that what you're saying? I am glad we can agree.appgrad wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 10:19 pmYeah… Can’t imagine why we would want to hire a guy who had the foresight to pluck an obscure assistant off of Texas Tech’s staff, who then turns into a coaching superstar. Re: Josh Gattis
OU still runs the ball very well, but throw the ball much better...I wouldn't mind that here. That said - Ruffin was pretty up and down at ECU. Still don't think they should've fired him...but it wouldn't really be the kind of hire I want us to make.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 10:42 pmSo Ruffin is an average coach who hired one outstanding assistant that ran a system completely opposite of what we have found success with, is that what you're saying? I'm just saying - a huge part of a HC's success is hiring the right people. He hit a Grand Slam with one of his first hires. That's a point in his favor, if we're keeping score.

Besides Temple paying more..... Would it be considered a "better job"?

It’s in a far better conference, and in a far larger media market, so yes.appstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 1:06 amBesides Temple paying more..... Would it be considered a "better job"?

Re: Josh Gattis
Well I answered my own question, in 2016 the Temple coach got paid $2.5M. Guess it really is a better job.

Re: Josh Gattis
Ledford might have eventually been the guy but we weren't close to making a decision this weekend. And we knew from the beginning that Satt was after him as well. His decision to go to Louisville wasn't Satt stealing our next head coach as much as eliminating him as a possibility.

Re: Josh Gattis
That’s the reason you’d like him to be the new coach? We’re really setting a low bar here. Ruffin played a huge hand in ECU going 14-34 the last 4 years, but he was an App DC for 3 years so...appgrad wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 10:19 pmYeah… Can’t imagine why we would want to hire a guy who had the foresight to pluck an obscure assistant off of Texas Tech’s staff, who then turns into a coaching superstar. Re: Josh Gattis
I wouldn't put to much stock in what FootballScoops is reporting. DG has a list of viable candidates that are interested in the position. There have been erroneous reports of who is interviewing and who is the front runner. I understand that we are all anxious to know who the next coach is going to be, but rest assured, DG will get the man that he thinks is the answer to carry us onward. Some will love it, some will hate it, some will question it. But until then, enjoy the ride.

Re: Josh Gattis
Really hoping it is Gattis at this point. Then once we hire him we need to be looking for the next man. These coaches are always looking for the next move. We must do the same.

Re: Josh Gattis
So just out of curiosity, what makes this guy so great? He has one year of OC exp. and that is as a Co. He took over play calling for a team so loaded with talent, that any play that he called was going to work.

He has developed WRs into very successful players every stop he has made. Named 2015 big 10 recruiting coach of year. Played at WF and has great ties in NC

Re: Josh Gattis
I mean he definitely would come with some risk. It would be a big step up for him, but I think a lot of us just love the ceiling and view Gattis as a guy who checks a lot of the boxes in what we’re looking for in a head coach.
He’s young, ambitious, and has been learning from the best coach in the history of college football. For us, he also has ties to the state. For me that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

Re: Josh Gattis
Sure he has a higher ceiling but will we ever benefit from it? He would likely parley this gig into another one in a couple of years. Thanks for the input. We are looking for different attributes in a new HC.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 9:26 amI mean he definitely would come with some risk. Never said I wanted him to be...but I can understand why he’s a candidate. He’s 3rd, at best, on my list.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 7:36 amThat’s the reason you’d like him to be the new coach? Re: Josh Gattis
Temple would pay more, but they are only a decade removed from "not caring enough about football". Not exactly an exciting football school, minus being in the AAC.
