Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
I thought that this was a drinking joke....
What kind of offense did NC State run? I'm thinking that Gillin wanted someone who checked off all of the leadership boxes while having the ability to improve offensive efficiency. The only people claiming App State's offense was spectacular this season either didn't watch the games or doesn't understand football. Efficiency was a huge issue this year.
Watching some NC State condensed games in 30 seconds, it looks like he runs a variation of the same exact offense App currently runs. It also looks like many fans may get their wish of going under center in short yardage situations. Might help with keeping some recruits, including the 4-Star guy who has picked up SEC offers.
I also suspect he will be gone in two seasons, maybe one, if App goes to the NY6 Bowl in 2019.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
This is going to be interesting. I think this is a solid hire. State runs a very similar offense and involves tight ends. They also found ways to get the ball to people like Samuels and Hines and not just handing it off. I think Finley came to State specifically because of Coach Drink. State put a lot of guys last year in the NFL (both offensively and defensively), could be a good draw for future recruits.
As others have eluded to, assistants and recruiting will need to be shored up quickly.

He runs an offense perfect for Darryton Evans. He airs it out a lot, but a lot to the RB's and slot/halfback's. The running backs have been great at NC State the past few years and they switch them out a lot, so think this is good for Camerun, Williams and the other guys.

I am excited. Maybe this will be the medicine we need to get our mojo back. I will admit going to NOLA without a coach would have been a little blah. Thankfully DG got it done.
They are hurting on PackPride. I feel for them I do but it just goes to show you at any level if you are winning other programs will notice.

Kudos to DG and everyone else involved for keeping a lid on this. Solid hire!
For 23 years, we wanted Moore. Then for 5 years, we Satt. And now, we DRINK!
(That doesn't really mean anything. I just can't resist puns.)

Satterfield was anything but selective.... he took the first job he interviewed for (as I remember, and I could be wrong, Cincinnati was an "interest" not an interview) and jumped! I hardly call that selective! The Rock wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 9:33 amEveryone saying our next coach will use us as a stepping stone ; what do you think Satterfield did?
He was a little more selective that others may have been, but that was due more to his family situation than his loyalty to App.
He used his success here to get a bigger opportunity elsewhere and jumped on it. Nothing wrong with that, but let’s keep that in mind when thinking about Coach Drink’s hire and any future App hires.

I think if he was serious he could have pushed harder (or had his agent) and gotten a job somewhere else at a different G5 school. UL was probably the first "big time" P5 offer he got.iambhooper wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:27 amSatterfield was anything but selective.... he took the first job he interviewed for (as I remember, and I could be wrong, Cincinnati was an "interest" not an interview) and jumped! Either way, success leads to change at almost every level. Let enjoy the next chapter of App State football

Gattis for OC?...just kidding coach Clark. Seriously though, I wonder if a few of Satt’s old teammates transition to Louisville now that we have a head coach from elsewhere. Would Ivey, Clark, etc want to stay with a new head coach if offered better positions at App and positions at UL?

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
I love this hire. Drinkowitz is a very, very well regarded young coach. He has major P5 experience, Major G5 experience and has been in N.C. the past three years.
He’ll bring a similar offensive approach. He does an excellent job of getting the ball to his playmakers and their individual numbers show it. His DC choice will be the most interesting aspect of this hire to watch. Hopefully we can continue to be strong there.

This is a better hire than Gattis. I was on the Gattis train but to me this is better. This guy is proven. There is risk with any hire because they pick the staff. So now we go to this next phase of picking a staff.

I'm onboard with this hire... let's keep the APP train moving in the right direction. He's got a lot of work to get done in short order to shore up staff, connect with commits and team, etc. All in all, encouraged by the hire... and yes, I had to do a double take on the pics of Drinkwitz, doppelgänger for sure! I thought someone was trolling us and/or maybe Scott did have a twin!!

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
Ivey needs to be retained as Defensive Coordinator or a Co-Defensive Coordinator. Continuity on the defense while creating a more efficient offense could propel App over the hump in their P5 Match-ups this season. Not to mention some level of efficiency in the pass game is going to be needed in Chapel Hill with them going to the Air Raid.

Gene Chizik, Gus Mahlzon, and Will Muscamp have all been quoted this morning that he is a great coach and person and we got a great hire. (I’m sure I spelled their names wrong)

I had to really look at this closely to make sure both guys are not Satt.
