Well, Monken has ties to Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech. So, it's not totally surprising except for the rumors on here.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:57 pmFootball Scoop reporting Nate Woody to Army as DC. Weird.

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
Realistically we got a good up and coming coach that won't miss a beat against our schedule next year.app97 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:22 pmNot sure that Butch would even be on the radar for us based on what we do and how we do it. He just doesn’t seem to fit the mold of our culture and institution. Neither does Ruffin McNeillStinklikeRoses wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:03 pmI think you guys made a decent move. Coaching searches are minefields, and there really aren't any red flags to cause alarm with Drinkwitz.app97 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:59 amthis is entertaining....GS fans mostly think we made an underwhelming hire. My favorite line is "Very underwhelming hire. Not Summers-level underwhelming, but close."
A southern education apparently means that your research/analysis skills involve looking on the surface of what a coach did with one team in the last year. One GS fan says that Drinkwitz is an "offensive guru who is 70% pass and 30% run". They can't dig deep enough to understand that he has historically designed offense that best fits his personnel (one year at Boise having a mobile QB, another year involving a pocket QB).
https://www.gsufans.com/tsc/showthread. ... -Drinkwitz
FWIW, that thread actually comes down about 20% being complimentary of the hire, 60% being curious as to how Drink will implement what he wants to do with your roster, and 20% being negative. (That's ignoring all the posts that are just hoping he will turn out to be your Tyson Summers, of course). The quoted post above is an extreme outlier.
Here's a question: A name that I thought might come up but never did was . . . . Butch Jones. He's had good success in a lot of places, although only modest success at UT. He was available and affordable . . . thought he might at least get a mention once y'all started talking about Ruffin McNeill.
After running his program into the ground where UT is a cellar dweller, Butch is still collecting his $14M buyout fortune from UT minus what he'll get at Maryland as a tight ends coach.
Ruffin is on the backside of his career and making nearly $600K.
APPs pay isn't commensurate with their wants and experience and headaches. They aren't good fits. They are P5 gigs now.

That's a big blow to Charlotte. Spencer really had that defense playing well this season.ComebackShack wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 4:08 pmNattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:57 pmFootball Scoop reporting Nate Woody to Army as DC. Weird.

I didn't think Woody was going to step back that far in salary to come back to App.

If excelling on the football field makes your opinion more valuable than us fans, then rather than your opinion, Mr Hall of famer, I would rather hear Armanti’s opinion.

Sitting in GSO waiting for our plane to take us to CLT then CLT to MSY. In my head I will think about y’all using flight aware like we were for the coaches. Haha

I am not saying your degree is useless, but your example indicates that tuition is $150,000,000. So maybe I am.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 11:40 amAfter reading the thread about our fees, I'm going to go with UNCC. 150 dollars extra a year compared to them (which is like 0.000001% of tuition these days) apparently makes us terrible fans for not donating enough because no one who graduates from here has enough money because our degree is useless.
Interesting to say the least.

I worked at Mike & Willy’s as a bouncer (many students hated us but we tried to enforce the rules) and Charlie Horse. Brings back some nostalgia...

Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
There were few people outside the athletic department who had any idea who was in the mix, so saying that he's somehow less of a coach because no one knew doesn't make any sense. As far as the names that people wanted to see, well, I'm glad our athletic director is not using the MMB as a source for job applicants.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:58 pmThe 90% of you that are "really happy" had no clue about this guy even being in the mix. The only reason people are saying they are glad is to save face. I bet if most were honest they have severe reservations about this hire. There were many names that people had out there that they wanted to see. Maybe one person mentioned this guy. I personally wanted Horton. It is what it is but I believe if there was as much interest as DG said we would not have went with Drinkawhoisthisguy?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:48 pmI believe about 90% of us are really happy with the hire and it exceeded expectations. For less that $1MM, who were you hoping for and why would that have been a better hire?
Anyone who is an App fan was likely to have reservations about any hire. As far as I know, none of us has a crystal ball, so we're looking at an unknown regardless of who got the job. But anyone willing to do so can now do the research and see that this looks like a really good hire. We got one of the top young offensive minds in the country who also checked off most of the other boxes that Gillin mentioned as requirements.

You still got the statue of the sexual abuser up in front of your stadium that he is named after? It doesn't take a degree at all to know that is pretty crappy to continue to glorify him like that.Nugget49 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 4:59 pmI am not saying your degree is useless, but your example indicates that tuition is $150,000,000. Re: New Head Coach - Eliah Drinkwitz
When I saw the hire, I admit that I had no idea who he was or even if NCSU had a decent offense or not. Now, after spending too much time looking up information about him and his coaching history and after watching that video when he first got hired by NCSU, I am very excited about having him as our coach. The possibilities of our offense next year with all we have returning are very exciting to me. As long as he keeps our defensive scheme and some coaches in tact we should be in great shape. Very excited about this hire even though I didn't even know who he was until we hired him.

Yeah it has skyrocketed, 150 million is a steal these days, don't think I'll ever pay it back.

I’m convinced he just posts on here to piss people off.Hudson2002 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:16 pmComments like the one from ASUTodd blow my mind. If you have some self awareness about who we are, meaning Saban ain’t applying for this job, I don’t see how someone could be so negative about this hire. This guy is extremely well regarded in his profession. Is a bright young offensive mind. Has been a coordinator for 4-5 years at big time football programs. I mean really. Whether or not he was on the radar as a candidate for any of us fans is 100% irrelevant.
