Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I've always been under the impression that very few assistant coaches get multiple year deals. I could be wrong but I remember when Lonnie Galloway was given a 3+ year deal at WVU it made a little news because it was unusual.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I understand that, and understand things from their perspective. On the other hand, Drink doesnt really know them or how they will truly fit in to his system, so why would he obligate himself to them (being the old coach's guys) for 3 years. His job is riding on his success at App, and if he realized their coaching wasn't fitting in with his style/goals, he would be stuck with them or be stuck paying them with no way no replace them financially. They should understand this and have no hard feelings.unknown wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:42 pmThey were OK with a small bump in salary. The bigger issue is they wanted a 3 yr contract. App said no. The new coach has every right to want to bring in his own guys. Nothing wrong with that but Ivey and Jones were not chasing a big payday at Louisville. They are App guys all the way and wanted to be here if they were really wanted here. That's really all there is to it.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:30 pmI’m not saying you are wrong, but they absolutely wanted more money, albeit not a ton as we did not have to match ULs offer. I know we did have interest in keeping them, but as I pointed out in previous posts, both Ivey and Jones are big Satt guys and after the events of the last two weeks, it was becoming clear that keeping certain staff members could be counterproductive for Drink when implementing his vision.Football Chick wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:19 pmThis is totally inaccurate. App Administration did not make a strong push to keep Jones and Ivey. They wanted a multi year contract. Would have stayed with similar pay and even a demotion. This is a fact.
Obviously you have some closer knowledge of the situation than most, but I did too and only post what things I have connected the dots on or verified with little doubt. Everything else I clarify by saying “I think”. Unless you are related to DG, Drink, Ivey or Jones, it is all hearsay. Trust me, I’ve heard certain things one minute, just to be told the opposite minutes later (from extremely reliable folks).
Its easy to make demands when you know you have another (better) job waiting on you

Question for anybody. How many assistant coaches at the G5 level have multi-year contracts?

IT IS GREAT TO BE A MOUNTAINEER! People do not like change. I do not like change but it happens everyday. I firmly believe that we lost coaches that love the black and gold but saw an opportunity to improve themselves, their careers and help their families. I for one do not want anyone around the program who does not want to be here, coach, player or fan. I have been here through the tough times and for the victorious celebrations and I have loved them all. Winning is always better than losing and we have found a formula that works. Appalachian State is a special place made up of some of the greatest people on Earth. I believe in the character and integrity of our fine institution and that the future is very bright. Construction will be a challenge next season and be a little inconvenient but you have to see the mountain forest behind the trees that are blocking our current view. I believe in the plans that are being put in place. I believe in the direction of our board, the athletic director and in our new coach to do the very best they can to continue the championship tradition.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I think I heard Satt say on the radio that he would give some of these guys the "opportunity to move up" and come coach at UL and that just left a bad taste in my mouth. As I see it:
Ways UL is better than AppState - $$$
Ways AppState is better than UL - Everything Else
Good luck but I for one will be just fine if UL continues to suck. There is no RQ2019 in Louisville, no trophies to lift, no conference championships... As far as I can tell, it looks like Satt has been perfectly fine hurting AppState during this transition. I get that he was offered life changing money. I get that he might want a new challenge. Dude could have been a legend in Boone.
Now I'm excited about the new era, a guy that looked so excited to be our new coach. I'm behind Coach Drink 100%! Go Apps!!!

Makes perfect sense based on some of the things I heard. I wish them luck. Negotiating is a two way street.unknown wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:42 pmThey were OK with a small bump in salary. You have definitely filled in a lot of the holes in the information I am getting, so keep it up Unknown.
I would love to keep DJ, Watts and Clark, but same goes for them if they can't fit our big picture needs.

More power to them for leaving. I wish we could have kept them, but it is what it is. Maybe they leave and gain experience and we can see Ivey as our next HC? But we have what we do now and all the talk in the world wont change that. All we can do now is support our team and the coaches we get.

Football Chick wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 11:30 amI think it's unrealistic to think that ASU could be considered for a consistent Top 25 ranking. Tougher competition weekly would not yield the same results as playing in the Sun Belt. Tough market to recruit in and ASU doesn't have the money resources to make that happen. Wishful thinking but don't see it happening from a resource standpoint. Cannot compete with the P5 programs except for an occasional upset here and there.
Sounds a lot like a former AD of ours.

Seriously bad troll job, lol. Your hot take is not to be taken seriously for many obvious reasons. This is a fact.Football Chick wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:19 pmThis is totally inaccurate. If I didn't know any better, I'd say we have a Jerry Colangelo situation on our hands.
