Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Georgia Tech fans were happy to see Roof go, NC State's are praying he will
Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
You have got to be kidding me, no history running a 3-4 defense and he is our guy??? Come on, surely we can do better than this. If this is true and add on the underwhelming hire of the ST coach yesterday and this thing seems to be going backwards fast.

Why wait? If you do it after he is hired you will accomplish nothing. If DG hears from many vocal/financial supporters before the hire it could actually mean something.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 12:51 pmIf he (Roof) looks at our tape from the last few years and decides to switch from the 3-4 he doesn’t deserve to be employed at all.
I will email the AD and encourage all of you to as well (if that scenario come say to fruition)
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
We have 8 starters and most key backups coming back from a defense that finished 6th out of 130 teams, SIXTH. If Drink can't understand we need to do everything possible to keep continuity for that then I have to question his decision making.
Ted Roof does not understand our defense and his philosophy is very different than our current defense. I don't understand this, why try to fix something that isn't broken.

Well, he was the DC for Auburn's Nat' Championship team in 2011 under Gene Chizik, so there's that. That's also the real connection to Drink. He was not the coordinator at NC State. No reason he can't coach a 3-4 and if we do switch over time we've had really good 4-3 defenses in the past as well. He has been successful in his career. We don't know what Ted Roof understands. I'd bet he's forgotten a lot more than some of us know. But I'm certainly not the expert some of you are. Let's lighten up a little bit. These are real people we're talking about. Wonder how many of us were poo-pooed when we were hired for our jobs.

And D. J. Smith didn't play in our 3-4 defense either and this year was his first year as an actual coach. But I guess since he's "one of us" he can do no wrong. Y'all crack me up. We're gonna be just fine.

I believe the rumor chain was mess up. It's not Ted Roof that was getting hired. It is Michael Jordan and he stated that App's ceiling is the roof.

The sky is the limit, don't put a roof on it. Weather is our advantage, I want to see Howard's Knob from my seat, not a bunch of rafters...

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I understand the pushback on this hire. He’s not the best looking stats-wise on paper, jumping from job to job shows that the longevity for his schemes aren’t there, and he’s shown that adapting to changing play styles isn’t his forte.
HOWEVER, the dude won a BCS national championship as a DC. I don’t care what your yards allowed statistics are or who you had at QB that year - App has never sniffed anything close to this type of experience on staff. Give it a chance to work folks.
Do not forget that his defense held one of the top spread offenses EVER (Chip Kelley’s Oregon Ducks) to 19 points in the biggest game of his life. Oh and he also happened to coach one of the best *collegiate DT’s of this generation in Nick Fairly.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
And maybe he's just been waiting for a chance to run a 3-4. I would be disappointed to see us change that, especially since Coach Drink has stated we would continue with the 3-4. I would not be upset to see some 4-3 looks utilized when necessary, the multiple front look that Drink also mentioned.
