Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Just a quick reminder and pull back to reality: NOTHING HAS BEEN CONFIRMED.
This is (once again) just another rumor. A few weeks ago, we believed rumors so much to where we didn't even know Drink's name and then were shocked from left field. Stop complaining when there isn't anything to complain about yet.

Drink is going to make every decision to improve upon a great program. He is hitching his wagon to everyone one of these decisions.
He hasn’t gotten this far in his career in a short time making mistakes. Have to trust him until he doesn’t perform.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
It's impossible to know how this will work out. Until he is interviewed by someone who asks him about his schematic preferences, his openness to change, etc., all we can do is guess why Drink went this route.
But what we do know is this:
1. He's been fired (or politely asked to leave) four times, including three times as a DC.
2. Yes, he was the DC when Auburn won the national championship, but that was hardly an overwhelming defensive unit. I don't think it was even in the top 50 in total defense.
3. The next season, he was DC when Auburn turned in the worst defensive performance in program history.
4. He was the DC for several of Ga Tech's worst defenses, and was traded in for the guy behind the blueprint for what App has done the last five seasons.
5. He has never run anything other than a 4-3, Cover 2.
6. He did a great job improving Minnesota's defense in his one year as DC back in 2008.
7. He did a great job running Penn State's defense in his one year as DC back in 2012, the season after all the sanctions were handed down and they were short-handed.
So his best results on the back half of his career have come in one-year stints in the Big Ten. Different brand of football in that league.
I'll reserve hope, but this is not an inspired choice. It's just not.

I voiced my opinion and I am done. I feel like we have the right to do that. I do not agree with this hire at all. I hope I eat crow but I don’t like it.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
ACC PROGRAM: "Hey, Ted, this style of defense just isn't getting it done in today's game anymore. So thanks and all, but you should find somewhere else to work. We want to look more like App State on that side of the ball."
ONE YEAR LATER
APP STATE: "Hey, Ted, come run our defense."
Spin it, sell it, market it all you want. That's what has happened here. On its face, it's ludicrous that intelligent App State football fans would be excited about this development.

I think he has already done that at least twice.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 1:55 pmA thousand complaints can be sent to DG and he will ignore every one of them. He just hired a new coach and you think he is going to tell the head coach he can't hire who he wants to? No way that'll happen. Got to trust Drinkwitz. And not the opinions of fans. They call this a chat board - it's just for chatting, not for hiring and firing and telling coaches what to do.

I'll just pray the Roof thing works out, but I'm worried about changing the D that certainly isn't broke.

This from the Internet https://www.backingthepack.com/nc-state ... e-wolfpack
"Roof’s departure is not something I would consider a significant loss for NC State. I mean, I’m sure he was helpful with breaking down film and game-planning, but I don’t know that he had much value in recruiting. His exit gives Doeren the opportunity to perhaps bring in someone with a better reputation in recruiting."
I don't like it.
More reactions here, read it and weep...majority don't like it.

Job hopping under achiever, not a fan of the Roof rumor one bit. Hope his buy out is astronomical, cause if he can some how not screw this defense up for 1 year, he will be gone.

Hearing a few of our players are not happy with this "rumor"..... I'm leaning towards saying this is a big mistake.....

Which is precisely why it's asinine for the rumors to put out as truth. We get caught up in it too. Probably too much.appstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 3:30 pmHearing a few of our players are not happy with this "rumor"..... I'm leaning towards saying this is a big mistake.....

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
I'll wait to see it confirmed, but this is the type of move that could destroy all of the goodwill coach Drinkwitz has built, to this point. This would not be good for him.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
If we lose even one defensive player because of this, then yes, it is a huge mistake. I'm having a really hard time finding a way to feel anything but disappointed if this turns out to be true.appstatealum wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 3:30 pmHearing a few of our players are not happy with this "rumor"..... Sometimes I wonder if these rumors are put out there so we are grateful when the real coach is announced.

Re: Coach Drink Staff Thread
Roof ran a 3-4 at Minnesota. Thought you might like to know that.asu7 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 1:53 pmGood afternoon!
First of all let me say that I truly appreciate all you have done for my university. You have been the best AD in our history. I have been nothing but impressed with the hires you have made. However, I do not see how Ted Roof fits our culture. To my knowledge he hasn’t even coached a 3-4 defense. Our defense was top notch this season and incredibly fun to watch. The defense is always my favorite part of the game and this year was amazing. I just don’t see how someone who was about to be fired at GaTech and who State fans are praying that he leaves will be a good fit for us.
Thanks again for all you have done! I am truly grateful and I am hoping these are just rumors and Roof is not our guy.
Thanks!
