Decent hire. Just look at Roof’s ground work from as assistant coaching standpoint as far as retaining sufficient personnel to carry on with these players and this scheme if this makes you anxious. We just added a BCS Champ DC as our DC and we return almost every player from our BEST DEFENSE EVER. Just a reminder: we play in the Sun Belt.

Plus, now we finally have a head coach who can beat a P5 and a schedule that gives us two very real chances to do so. We are in position for another excellent season and finally collect another P5 scalp. We will compete for the SBC Championship yet again.

Easy Prncess. It’s football.
It’s a message board and I don’t drink the kool aid. I also don’t result in name calling behind some screen name. If you don’t agree with what I said post how great you think this hire is and move on.
If the drama fits, own it.

Cautiously optimistic. Drink isn’t completely in the dark, he knows how we feel about our defense here, and he also knows how good our D has been. Roof has experience we could only dream of. I still think Roof is here not only to offer experience and mentor Eli, but also Gasparato (who I think may eventually become our DC).

Here’s to hoping we don’t miss a beat. GO APPS!!

Ps: Now announce all the other coaches so I can put my phone down finally!

It’s drama. We just hired the 2nd most important hire of our staff. You love him so just accept it. I don’t have to. You love him. I just don’t. We will just agree to disagree and move on. Go drink the kool aid.

Something I can not control will not ruin my dinner or any other aspect of my life. Not overly excited about the dc, but I will get behind him and hope it works out. The experience is there, now get to work and let’s see the results.

From that tweet it sounds like he isn’t going to change anything that we run. We already run a multiple look basically. 3 down linemen and bring a 4 th with a line backer. I think we will be great again next year.
We will know once spring ball starts if it truly is the same scheme. Do we use a true NT and how is the dog LB position used, that will tell us if it’s the same

Dude. It's cool that you don't like him and we can agree to disagree. I was poking fun at the fact that it made you sick. It's football and something that none of us can control.

One thing we can look forward to is that he won’t be here long. I doubt he is here to mentor anyone. I would hope Drink would hire someone who could run the defense and not someone who is just a good mentor.

I agree. This is one area where Roof is going to have to rely of Drink and the staff holdovers on defense to explain to him that what he may want in personnel are not available to him at our level. He isn't going to get a Nick Fairley type NT that can line up hat on hat with the center. He has a good mind for defense and I believe that he will make the adjustments to his plans to fit what we have.

If he does what you just said it will be the first time in his career he has done that. I hope he does but I don’t think he will. If he does we will be successful if he doesn’t we won’t.

Do I have reservations about this hire? Yes. Do I like all the other hires? Yes. Will I support the Black and Gold and Coach Drink? Yes. So let’s just start the games now.

And by the way, the answer is Mary Ann.

I also have my reservations, but don’t think it’s a complete miss. With how good our d is we will be fine. If we come out and are completely flat vs ETSU then I will be more concerned. I think he will provide insight our program hasn’t had.

Our D has been dominant against SunBelt/G5 teams - but there is a reason we do not have a P5 win - they've out scored us. Optimistically I believe Roof can provide some tweaks that will help us compete (and win) against P5s. After all, with all of his tenures he's gone against good-to-better P5 offenses.

We don’t need to tweak our defense. Statistically, we are damn good as is. Make two field goals (Vols, Deacons) and we have two more P5 wins. Our D should continue to be built to defeat teams in our conference and win championships. Athletic Speed that is aggressive over size wins. Georgia Southern is trying to mimic us to close the defensive gap and to win the conference. If they are better than us on total defense next year then we got the wrong guy at DC.

From our new DC’s twitter page: “The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.”
