Back in the early 70's Boone was the greatest! Drive to BR to Antlers and then pedal back to Justice very carefully!! There was a couple local burger joints that were really good. One on the west end of King Street and Stameys on the east end of King Street. Those were the days for sure!! :D

Hey you guys are way too young.? Back in the 60s there was Boone Drug, Tastey Freeze, Tony’s Pizza, Tony’s Burger House the Town House Rest. the Peddler and DBI. There was a lunch counter in the back of a general merchandise store that had a meat and 2 for a dollar. In BR was Antler’s and Duke’s plus Mom and Pops Ham House and of course Holly’s Tavern. Then Villa Maria and P.B. Scott’s. Early 70s there was a pizza place that would deliver to campus. And in 1967-68 if you could live with the $95 meal plan and not spend money you could have attended App (on the quarter system then) for $995 for the year. Loved it then love it more now the options now is 50 times what we had then. To me App State is the best place in NC to go to college. Proud grad, so proud I had to buy a place in the High Country.

That was my life, also. Wouldn't change much of it. Dr. Van Noppen's English Lit. classes and two or three other little things maybe. Definitely the -13 degree temps and -40 degree wind-chill on the walk back to the dorm after my 8 AM Tu-Thurs winter qtr. swimming class in old Broome-Kirk.

Buzz City Sub Shop .Perfection.
Some of you guys are bringing back memories....
Buzz City, Chanelo's, Sollecito's, Buck's Biscuits, Holly Farms (Taters), Chuck's Steaks, Original Mountain house for breakfast.
Western Steer - Six ounce sirloin, Baked Potato unlimited salad bar...$5.00
Yogi's Turkey Grinder, Boone Drug for hot dogs.

Sorry to hear Pepper's doesn't seem to have its mojo anymore. Jack could cook a mean Prime Rib or steak. Claude would have the kitchen pumping it out. The Jean Lawson with a crock of french onion was my go to for a "quality meal" back in the day.
Parents night out restaurants for me - Peppers, Peddler, Makato's, Chuck's Steak and the old Daniel Boone inn

Anyone remember Ray's drive inn???
The most glaring omission is The Pharmacy. The full name was The Carolina Pharmacy. At least once a week: 2 cheeseburgers all the way, large fries, and a large cherry smash.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Who would we choose as WR coach if we were choosing?
Apparently Drink has two guys in mind, couldn't get any names though. He said that both were top notch guys, but I guess we will have to wait and see. I just want good teachers at the position who can fine tune our skill guys.

It was mentioned earlier Adams may not be the only asst. coach who bolts quickly. Any more concerns about this?

I haven’t heard of any immediate concerns, but based on the resumes of a lot of these guys, if a P5 comes calling.....the DL coach stands out to me as a guy who could easily get a nice offer before the season starts.

As far as good news: I am hearing a lot about how the kids love Dorsey and the new strength coach. Word is the new strength coach is doing an awesome job already and introducing things these kids have never seen before. This team may be faster and stronger than before.

I remember Ray's. Not fondly, but I remember ;)
You have the same recollection I do. Late night only when everything else was closed and only after a lot of kool aid.

APPsolutely. One of the many songs played on the BI's juke box on an hourly basis. Each time a class would let out a new group would come in and the same songs would play again.

Nothing beats the either 3 or 4 dogs for $1 at the shell station on 321 back in the 80’s. Mmmm good and cheap late at night.

Oh, was it? Memory failing a bit, like I couldn’t remember if it was 3 or 4 dogs for a buck. Of course, when eating there things were a little fuzzy that late at night.
The old A&P deli had a similar deal. Three dogs, chili and onions for a $1.50 at noon. By 3 pm they were marked down to $1.00. Also used to eat one meal a day at he Pizza Hut buffet. $4 0r $5 all you can eat.
Broke college students can find the deals.... Think I lived on a jar of p nut butter and a box of saltines for about a week once...

Vienna sausages and saltines too. Can't stand the sight of them now. Probably the reason for one of the hypertensive medications I'm on now.

This thread is something!

Gotta say I am enjoying the memories shared and as a student in the mid to late 80s I recall some of the same ones. 3 hot dogs for a buck was a staple for us back then. As far as the BI is concerned, my favorite line was written on the wall of a bathrooms stall on the 4th floor of Bowie Hall in 1984: “Flush twice, its a long way to the BI”. Lol. About sums it up!

If anything I was worried about Dorsey going to Miami.

It would be nice if Akeem Davis Gaither’s dad got a shot. He’s a good coach and has ties to the state.

That is good news on Dorsey and the strength coach. I'm really optimistic here. From talking to folks who have coached a long time or those who knew what was being taught our program was being run well but really needed an infusion of more juice to take that next step and it appears as though that is what we are getting in these new hires. I wish I was a millionaire because I would donate major money just to keep the coaches we appear to love around.
