Re: 2019 Football Schedule
ETSU was 8-4 last season (6-2 in the Southern Conference) and lost to Jacksonville State in the first round of the FCS playoffs 34-27. We had one common opponent. The Buccaneers beat Gardner-Webb 45-0. (We beat Gardner-Webb 72-7.)

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
ETSU should be a good game. We should know better than most to never underestimate a good FCS program.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
ETSU should not be a good game. If it is we weren’t focused and/or not as good as we were last year.
They are a nice SoCon team, which is now the equivalent of an mid-tier OVC team.
We should be a top 40 FBS team next year.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
I really hope we move past playing teams like Gardner Webb. That was ridiculous. If the ETSU game is still in doubt by halftime we will need some serious evaluation

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
ETSU should not be a good game but I hope our players don't think that. They need to go in every game focused and know that anyone can beat us if we aren't ready. We should aim to beat them like Tennessee did in 2018 (59-3) but who knows with Drink. I hope he does not take the foot off the gas at halftime. Hopefully we are so athletically dominant that we impose our will and can run 3-4 run plays and 2 pass plays all in second half and still move the ball.
I'm think better than top 40. We could, and should be, a top 25 team.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
I talked to a friend at the ticket office yesterday and they said "hopefully" we should be getting some more info today about this year, parking, the young alumni package, and other changes.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
Games against FCS teams are supposed to be competitive enough to serve as a legitimate "scrimmage" but not an significant threat. I think ETSU fits that role and in that respect, it should be a "good" game. I'm not saying that to slam ETSU. I'm very happy to see their program getting re-established and having some success. I just think App is far to athletic from top to bottom for them to hang with us. That said, they could surprise us and hang in there for a while. I certainly didn't expect to see The Citadel hanging with Bama for half the game this past season but they did. ETSU will give us a better opportunity to fine tune things than GWU did.

We're gonna stomp a mudhole in ETSU.
If we don't, all of yall's pipe dreams of New Years Day 6 are up in smoke.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
Are we really not going to talk about how big the '19 season's schedule is?

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
Apparently, if we talk about any games other than ETSU, we won't win a game this coming year.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 2:42 pmAre we really not going to talk about how big the '19 season's schedule is?

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
That's what i don't get. Our goal is to win the Sun Belt, but ETSU isn't in the Belt. So given that game doesn't matter... What if we loose to the *ucks but beat both Carolinas?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 2:45 pmApparently, if we talk about any games other than ETSU, we won't win a game this coming year.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 2:42 pmAre we really not going to talk about how big the '19 season's schedule is?

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
Someone can always find that anomaly to make a point. The Citadel runs the ball with the TO which chews clock. No way Alabama was slightly interested in that game. And the final was 50-17Stonewall wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 4:48 pmGood point.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 11:43 amAlabama and Citadel were tied at halftime this year. Alabama sucks.

Re: 2019 Football Schedule
I'm fine with FCS games once in a while. Local FCS games make sense.
Except Elon and Western. Never play them.

We have bigger goals than just winning the Sun Belt.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 3:19 pmThat's what i don't get. Our goal is to win the Sun Belt, but ETSU isn't in the Belt. If we don’t win the Sun Belt then our program won’t take the next step.
