Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
Go look at the play by play on ESPN......we had the ball with 1:11 to play coming off a timeout and Forrest took and missed the shot. Then Forrest fouled a shooter who made the basket and the foul shot. Then Forrest turned the ball over and GSU made a layup.....Tough for him. He played a decent game prior to that hat terrible sequence

Losing by five to this team isn’t a horrible loss, but when you add it to 16 other losses you find yourself tied for last place in a weak conference. Proud the team keeps fighting, but it is what it is.

Heck of a game tonight. I do not know how you can't like this team. They played hard throughout the whole game. This team is so much better and ahead of previous teams (yes I know their record doesn't show it). It probably should be remembered that this GAST team has several 4-star athletes and it showed.... regardless we played right with them and had a couple of opportunities at the end of the game.

These are the type of results you should be seeing in year 3 at the latest. We have 17 losses now and can at best be .500 in conference play.
Tonight was a great example of Fox's struggles. Play great only to blow the chances late. Coaching does a disservice to the kids in late game situations.

We're now back in last place. This team plays better than a last place team for 35-37 minutes a game and then collapses. It would be understandable if this were a young squad but it's not. This is a veteran team.
I believe in a tournament setting we would be dangerous but at this rate we won't make the tournament.

I agree with everything you say, except the bolded. I look at it the opposite way. If we didn’t start the first 5-10 minutes sluggish and only have what 7 points last night or if we could eliminate a 5-7 minute scoring drought from most games (that isn’t coaching) we wouldn’t be in the late game last second situations. We likely would be up and our record would look much different.hapapp wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 5:47 amWe're now back in last place. As to the end of the game, I find it very hard to believe if the coaches were not ALL telling the team “no fouls” when we were tied at 75... then snakebit.

Tough loss to a good Georgia St team. Fought hard but as mentioned started soft and that sequence to end game was tough to swallow.
Really need to beat GSU if we still want a shot at Sunbelt tournament.

Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
Our guys played their butts off last night and came up short at the end..... it sucks, it was a winnable game. That’s what makes it hard to swallow... and if it’s hard for us to swallow how about the team and coaching staff. The idea that somehow it’s the coaches fault is a little misplaced. Its a player execution problem in the last 40 seconds of the game. One by a senior and on by a sophomore. In any contested game (in any sport), it comes down to a few plays. They are excruciating when they don’t go your way and there is a tendency to want to blame anybody for the loss. One thing is for sure, the opponents that play us know well that we don’t play like a last place team... and “just” have to finish.

Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
Saturday is a big day because of the other bottom teams that also play each other. Little Rock @ Ark St, So Ala @ Troy .This season is likely going to come down a tiebreaker regarding who gets in the tournament. As of now, we are 1-3 against those teams. We could be eliminated before the final weekend of the season, but we could also be playing for tournament seeding against a team that is also playing for seeding, or to just make the tournament. Only two teams are locked in the tourney at this point.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:35 amTough loss to a good Georgia St team. We have the athletes. We don't have the coaching. Great resume coming in, but has proven head coach might not be right for him. He recruited well, fixed the academic issues, but game time decisions the past 5 years have been very poor in clutch situations. It's time for a change.

Almost every game we have lost has been winnable.AppFan11 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:37 amOur guys played their butts off last night and came up short at the end..... it sucks, it was a winnable game. Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
Like it or not, it always comes down to coaching. The ability to put your players in a position to have a real chance to win the game at crucial moments is what sets the good coaches apart from the great ones. When plays “don’t go your way” it’s usually because you were out coached on the defensive end.AppFan11 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:37 amOur guys played their butts off last night and came up short at the end..... it sucks, it was a winnable game. Time and time again we rely on one on one shot creating that leads to contested threes or pull-up mid-range jumpers in late game situations. You’re not going to consistently win games with that approach unless you have guys by the name of MJ, Kobe, Lebron, or KD.

Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
Ok 22.... I don't know if you saw the game but we did have a "real chance" to win the game last night. When you are playing good teams most of the shots to win the games are going to be contested..... thats what good teams do. Unless you have a terrible coach your players are going to be more or less in the right positions. Its all going to come down to WHO EXECUTES BETTER in the last seconds of a close game. The coach can't make the shot or defend the player... at some point you are going to have to make a clutch play. We are very close. Has it taken longer than we'd like it to...... Yes.... but we are close. I do not know if DG is going to pull the trigger here or not..... I vote not.

Re: Georgia State 2/21 Gamethread
We are 339th out of a possible 353 teams in KenPom's 'Luck' ratings this year. Throughout Fox's 5 years at App, we have peaked at 31 (his first year, 2015) which was a fantastic start to the Jim Fox era, essentially meaning we out performed our expected results for that year. Since then, we have followed it up with 218, 282, 256, and this years 339. Those numbers confirm what our eyes are telling us. We're far under performing with the amount of talent we have. I like Coach Fox, we are in much better shape than we were 6 years ago. But this streak of falling short of expectations has to stop.
For reference, Capel's 4 years went from 67 in 2011 to 160, 151, and 251 in 2014.
Not that this stat is the end all be all, just thought it was interesting.

I don't know that we are closer in year 5 than we were in year 4 , the record indicates that we are not.We were sold a bill of goods on the extension.

The extension was the right thing to do....I get that but it has failed to produce. I REALLY want that 3 point shooter from Charlotte Christian and fear Fox's departure will run him off
BUT we gotta do something............
