The extension was the right thing to do....I get that but it has failed to produce. I REALLY want that 3 point shooter from Charlotte Christian and fear Fox's departure will run him off
BUT we gotta do something............
Fox stays, recruit still comes to App...I still don't feel he will be utilized well. We've seen what Fox hasn't been able to do with some pretty good talent.

Our guys played their butts off last night and came up short at the end..... it sucks, it was a winnable game. That’s what makes it hard to swallow... and if it’s hard for us to swallow how about the team and coaching staff. The idea that somehow it’s the coaches fault is a little misplaced. Its a player execution problem in the last 40 seconds of the game. One by a senior and on by a sophomore. In any contested game (in any sport), it comes down to a few plays. They are excruciating when they don’t go your way and there is a tendency to want to blame anybody for the loss. One thing is for sure, the opponents that play us know well that we don’t play like a last place team... and “just” have to finish.

No it's on the coaches as much as the players. How many times out of a timeout do other teams get an easy look against us?

We never get those in late game situations.

I respectfully disagree .He didn't earn a multi-year extension , in my opinion . I would hate to lose our recruits. Allison can recruit. I would have given him the reigns last month to see if he could dig us out of this hole now , and hold on to our recruits . We might have been pleasantly surprised. And yes , we gotta do something.

I'm withholding anymore Fox judgement until the end of the season. I wanted him out after January, but the timing is bad now.

Losing last night wasn't the worst thing when you look at the game singularly. It's the 4-9 record in league and 9-17 overall record that's the bad thing. Georgia State is really good, but beatable.

It was 75-75 with 1:47 left and we had three bad offensive possessions in a row without a single clean look. Now, Georgia State didn't do much better, but they made the one shot they needed.

We shot over 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. You need to win those games. However, Georgia State only had FIVE turnovers, three of them in the final 8 minutes. We had double-digit turnovers mostly due to GSU's active hands on defense. That's one thing I see for App defensive is the lack of active hands. 2-3 more steals a game would mean at least 2-3 more wins, IMO.

Coming back from 24-7 down was mostly due to switching to a 2-3 zone. It was an ugly 2-3 zone, but it worked. Then in the second half, we alternated defenses between man and zone.

Something has got to be going right with coaching for us to have a chance to win nearly all games this season. I can think of only maybe 3 or 4 games where we were just flat out played and were out of the game the last 5 minutes of play. I genuinely feel we have a legitimate chance to win every time we take the court. I can’t tell you the last time I have felt that way... definitely pre-capel era.

I guess the mantra is, wins are 100% because of players and losses are 100% on the head coach no in between.

I can see how someone would think we have a legitimate chance to win every time we take the court. The problem is that the opposite is also true. We have a legitimate chance to lose every time we take the court too. The latter has to change for the program to be successful.

There are things you do night in and night out, that you can control , to win more than you lose if you have comparable talent. Fundamentals have to be taught and learned ,it’s all of the little things added up that will win for you when the shots aren’t falling .Last night you saw us miss out on long rebounds because we were watching the game instead of playing it. It takes discipline and repetition but any decent athlete can be taught to play defense, and rebound. We turn the ball over, lack of mental discipline. How many times do we have a ball handler stripped from behind? That’s just sloppy. Heck , we can run and jump with anyone in the league and our shooting is better than most. We aren’t fundamentally sound. I see no reason to think it’s going to turn around. Hope I’m wrong.

Check this out for some perspective:

Based on these stats, the SOS rating is determined as strength related to the average D1 strength of schedule (non-D1 games excluded from stats). According to this, our current season is the toughest schedule AppState Basketball has ever played only the ‘81-‘82 season comes close. This is also the ONLY season we have played an above average D1 opponent schedule.

This also lists an SRS metric. It compares results (point diffential) against strength of schedule. Based on this, the 2018-19 season is the 13th best in school history.

Last, against this schedule we are on pace to record the 5th highest average points per game in school history.

Wanna know why that average points per game total is so high? Try 125 points against Mars Hill, 100 points against Howard, 99 points against mighty Milligan, and 91 points against Winston-Salem St. Foes like those will raise your scoring average everytime. Okay, okay, I'll give them credit for the 104 points against ULaLa and the 89 points against Coastal. Those two were legitimate.

Only D1 scores are included in the stats I posted.

Not according to that link you posted. The way I read it the average points per game includes all 26 games played be they against Division I or Division II opponents.

Your right, just the SOS and SRS exclude non-D1. So 2 non-D1 games skewing it.

In the end, the only stat that matters is the won-loss record.

Just out of curiosity I watched most of the Davidson vs Rhode Island game last night. Was hoping we could be at about the same caliber as Davidson by this time. Not even close. And ...where are all the New York and foreign players we were supposed to be getting because of Fox’s pipelines and connections? The young man from Iceland (for Davidson) is a player. If we keep Fox on we are pretty much saying that we are just fine with being what we are. We should not settle for being a less than mediocre program. We have had success before and I believe we can have it again. This is getting old.
