Softball 2019 Megathread

Our softball ladies are kicking butt this year.
27-11 overall, 11-3 in conference as of April 10th. Absolutely crushing it.

Since we don't post a thread for every softball game/series this is a continuously running megathread for softball.

Next Up: Louisiana 6pm Friday in Boone. UL is 34-4 and undefeated in conference. Tough series. If we can steal even 1 or 2 that would be big.

Friday (6pm), Saturday (2pm), Sunday (12pm) series with Louisiana. This is a match-up of #1 and #2 in the conference. Weather looks to be a factor.

First softball game I've watched this season (off early because Clemson baseball blacked out the last 90 minutes of our show). It's actually really fun to watch. Think baseball but played 2x faster. 0-0 bottom 2nd.

UL has bases loaded, no outs, top of the 7th. Short stop makes a bad throw to 3rd and 2 score.

Kenzie Longanecker has freaking battled from the mound. Gives up 1 more run in Top 7th.

3-0 Cajuns going into B7.

Update: App scores 1 in the bottom of the 7th but couldn't get any more. Mountaineers fall 3-1 to #10 in the nation.

That's really not as bad as it sounds. Louisiana is number 10 in the whole country. They're undefeated in conference play.

Our girls were picked to finish dead last in the conference and are currently in 3rd behind Louisiana and Troy. Troy has already lost their games to Louisiana (1 - 9, 0 - 8, 0 - 8). We play at Troy next weekend. Troy plays us, TX State (currently right behind App in the standings), and South AL (9th) to finish the season. We play Troy (2nd), Western (non-conf), UTA (6th), and Coastal (5th) to finish up. There's not much space between 2nd and 5th right now. Finishing out strong will be crucial to keeping the momentum going into the conference tournament in San Marcos.

We've benefited from our conference schedule thus far by playing the bottom half of the standings. The stretch run will be crucial as we play a tougher level of competition. UL is just heads above the rest of the Belt.

Daphne you're right. I was hoping the ladies would maybe steal 1 away. And they had a real shot to take game 1 the floodgates just opened in the top of the 7th but credit the defense that entire game.

Reads like our softball ladies know what team they need to topple to take the next step. Hopefully they will be motivated (I bet they are) to get back to winning and prove they belong.

I want to give another shoutout to JR pitcher Kenzie Longanecker (Sanford, FL) who has pitched her heart out all season and who was simply amazing against the Cajuns. Her leadership and on-field performance have been a huge key to our team's success.

Ladies put up 2 runs in the top of the 7th but came up short 2-3.

30 win season! The last time that happened was 2013 when we were still in the SoCon. The Sun Belt has some strong programs like Louisiana that are consistently ranked nationally.

We're currently in 4th in the conference behind Louisiana, Troy, and Texas State with our two remaining series being against current 5th and 6th place UTA and Coastal. It would not be surprising to come up short against either of our two remaining opponents. Whatever the outcome of the remaining 6 regular season games, our ladies have played their hearts out and shown that a program picked to be dead last in the conference can come out and compete solidly. Even if we were to lose all six remaining games, our worst finishing spot would be 6th in the conference.
