NMSU's only value is basketball, but I guess adding them for football only would appease the 10/12 model and help travel costs since Olympic sports would not have to go there. And why on Earth would anyone even mention Idaho? Have you guys seen it on the footprint map? It may as well be next to Siberia.asumike83 wrote:Their presidents may not have actually threatened to leave but I'd imagine one of the schools in question is ULL. Their head football coach has very openly said he doesn't want to play in a "glorified FCS league", how adding FCS programs will hurt their recruiting and would be bad for the program. The article is a few months old but he made those comments on the record in an interview.Yosef84 wrote:I seriously doubt that there were threats issued in the discussion. This whole thing about tempers flaring and threats issued is all unsubstantiated message board drama. Bottom line is that Benson wants to build consensus and he has time to do it, so that's what he's doing. Why would he try to force anything through? Just to make App fans happy? He has to work with these universities for some time, so he will keep working toward an arrangement where consensus can be achieved if possible. I'm as frustrated as the next fan, but the spin being put on things is downright amusing.
I'm sure the higher-ups are much more diplomatic in what they say but they likely feel the same. I can't imagine the coach would be so vocal about an opinion not shared by his superiors. They seem to want NMSU if they have to add. It may have been dramatized through the message board chatter but I think their opposition to FCS move-ups is accurate.
I completely agree about Benson's part. He has to maintain good relationships with these schools and considering how much time is left before the deadline, there is no need to rush into anything that could alienate some of the existing members. When it's all said and done, my guess is that App/GSU get full invites and NMSU for football only.

I know right now you folks assume Im a Idiotic person claiming to know whats going on. First off the announcement was supposed to made If all Sun Belt schools agreed. The verbal process occured then a school had a change of heart _________ University was Quoted saying that They would not benifit from traveling that great of a distance for events.

Maybe they have been reading our boards and have been convinced that we are " JV " and they only want varsity.fjblair wrote:I don't understand the reluctance to add FCS schools. What's the big deal? It sounds like he's done his homework on App and GSU, (possibly even reading the blogs.) That cant possibly refer to any other current FCS team in the SB's region. Its a positive. I imagine the hang up will be trying to convince some of the original SB teams to add another FCS team like JMU, Liberty, or Missouri St, located more in the footprint rather than appease them with NMSU and Idaho. And we know how some of those schools dont want to be associated with more FCS schools than they can help.
To me, It sounds like most presidents want 3 FCS teams, with potential, rather than expand the SB's footprint with a huge outlier, and a few presidents are digging their heels in and threatening to leave if that happens.

Re: App State to the Sun Belt
The guy needs to do some research. It already is a "glorified FCS league" in the sense that, with the exception of ULL, every school in the Sun Belt is a former 1-AA / FCS program. This is the one aspect of the SB that really frosts me. They talk down to schools wanting to make the same move up as they did.asumike83 wrote:Their presidents may not have actually threatened to leave but I'd imagine one of the schools in question is ULL. Agreed. I hate schools wearing uniforms that are not the schools' colors. Although, I do like the matte black helmets.Kgfish wrote:BooneTown wrote:I know right now you folks assume Im a Idiotic person claiming to know whats going on. I know I came down hard on you a bit here, but we have been told so many times that it's a "done deal," only for it to be false. However, I don't want to discourage from posting any inside info that you may have and want to share. Here's to hoping that the next "done deal" turns out to be accurate.BooneTown wrote:I know right now you folks assume Im a Idiotic person claiming to know whats going on. With all of that said, can you tell us if the design of the uniforms will be different, or will we just have three all-color sets?

Kind of clever.hapapp wrote:I didn't realize white was our school color.
White is a traditional "away" jersey for football. Not the same thing as wearing grey, or Duke wearing black, and so forth.

Re: App State to the Sun Belt
Teams where white because it is a neutral color, as is grey. My point, I guess, was that no one here has seen the uniforms and in typical fashion folks are complaining.

Nice. I'm not much of a complainer and I wasn't really complaining, just stating my opinion. Feel free to disagree with my opinion.hapapp wrote:Teams where white because it is a neutral color, as is grey. Thanks for stating your point, it wasn't there in the last post.

They will be a diffrent design, more of a modern look with the Nike Combat style. Threre is a "Special Helmet" that I have seen that are Grey with a black North Carolina with a Block A in the middle of the State. The other side is the players number. Once again I dont know if they will actually use this helmet or not but there is chatter of it.

Re: App State to the Sun Belt
Thanks BT. I've been looking forward to changing the design of the jerseys, so I am particularly interested in what the new unis will look like...I'm hoping for maybe even a stripe or two on the pants. That helmet sounds interesting, especially the logo. Thanks for posting.BooneTown wrote:They will be a diffrent design, more of a modern look with the Nike Combat style. I have never seen so many guys interested in fashion. We cry we are short on money then we have to have 30 different kinds of uniforms. Just give me the one that helps get us into the end zone and stick with it.
BUT!!!! just let me say this GREY?????

Cool looking uniforms, helmets and equipment perks help with recruiting, so I guess it does help us get into the endzone in a way.

We already have an all white set and it looks pretty bland. What happened to the white jersey with black pants look for away games?

Not a big fan of the grey, but here are a few that others wore last year. The OSU combo looks similar to what was reported.

I hate doing things like this that have already been done. Like Boise's smurf turf, then came a bunch of posers.
We need to separate App from the others, not follow them. We need our own brand.
