Let them shoot the long rifle to bring out the team, too. Say “Welcome to the Rock” on tape and shoot the rifle live. The Rock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 3:45 pmformer players turned pros.
Doug Middleton
Ronald Blair
Sam Martin
Kendall Lamm
Daniel Kilgore
Parker Colins
Malachi Jones
any former player for that matter.
Also cool idea if we could pull it off; random celebrities.
Actors, athletes, rockstars etc. make people excited and pay attention to see who it would be that week. Its only 6-7 per year. Shouldn't be that hard...
As long as it clearly shows on the board who that person is, as some of the newer students/fans wouldn't recognize some of the athletes that were gone by their time.

Re: Improving a tradition
I would add guys like QB Robbie Price, RB Emmitt Hamilton, OL Gill Beck QB and TV star Phil Cochiletti QB from the 1970s teams. Get John Settle to tape a "Welcome......"as well as Todd Payton, Avery Hall, Shawn Elliott and Coach Satt. Get Brownie and Beasley to do one together. Go back as far in football history as we can given age and ability to do the job. Get really creative and get former and retired AD Jim Jones from the 70s and living in Brunswick County near Southport. Heck, even Bobby Cremins and Tom Apke. There are all kind of directions we could go with "Welcome to the Rock" people. Maybe do a Yosef Club auction with the winner doing the welcome for a game.

Re: Improving a tradition
Or we could just boost the audio level of the line and have Sean f*ing Connery bring our team onto the field!

You have to know that we already have a lot of folks going “who the hell is that”. My daughter is 21. She grew up going to App games and she has no idea who James Bond or Sean Connery are.

Re: Improving a tradition
Sean Connery's character saying the "Welcome to the Rock" line is not James Bond. It's the main guy from the 1990s movie "The Rock" where they have to break into Alcatraz because of some domestic terrorists holding the city hostage. Not sure if the James Bond references were jokes or not...

Re: Improving a tradition
But the tongue-in-cheek assertion in that movie is that he was a British spy captured because he had footage of JFK's assassination...ala James Bond.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 11:23 amSean Connery's character saying the "Welcome to the Rock" line is not James Bond. Idk what kind of shows you're taking her to but it sounds like you're a good dad. Expose her to as much good music as you can!

Thanks man, good Dad is one heck of a great compliment. Yep, the young lady indulgeses her old Pop sometimes and goes to a show with him. We started with Skynyrd. I know it’s a reformed band but the music is still good and she got to see 4 of the originals, Rossington, Wilkeson, Powell and I count Rickey Medlock. We’ve seen ZBB several times and Eric Church a few months ago. I almost got her to go see Buddy Guy. We saw Chicago and the Doobie Brothers and I broke down and paid for the Eagles last year. On the movie front I did get her to watch a little of Hunt for Red October with me. That a favorite of mine.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 6:14 pmIdk what kind of shows you're taking her to but it sounds like you're a good dad. Expose her to as much good music as you can!![]()

Yep, sad that so few know his music. Seen him a bunch of times. He’s still going at it, just saw him in Charlotte less than a year ago.

Every time I see his name, I think of the Sanford PBP guy who kept pronouncing his name Mal-a-kee.

Re: Improving a tradition
It's threads like this that make me wonder why we even hire people do manage marketing and game atmosphere. Surely Doug Gillin, Spencer Bridges, John Welch and Suzette Mauney (well maybe not Suzette) can read our suggestions right? And then just go do it. It's simple. Read the cabin, go do your job.
Who cares about your years of experience or any plans that you have that could make the atmosphere better. The cabin has an idea and now it needs to happen. Cabin get what Cabin want!
(If you don't understand the sarcasm in this, I feel so sorry for you. Let these people do their jobs.)
