VA College Student Fees

We certainly do better than many on that list in terms of support outside of the University. It will be interesting to see how long we can go without some increase in fees.
I believe ours is less than all but Tech.

Re: VA College Student Fees
In the $325-350 range as best I can recall.
Edit: Sorry, that is per semester.

Per Semesterappbio91 wrote:What are they currently at App State?
324.50 Athletic Fee + 58.50 Athletic retirement of Debt = 383/Sem (766/Yr)
The numbers in the report are annual.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Re: VA College Student Fees
it is NOT very easy to find the #s for JMU'S ath. fees, unless they've changed it. I looked before when I was in a discussion either about their $32 million athletics budget or their stadium enhancement.
Their tuition and fees breakdown was not nearly as open as App's. I wonder how many Virginians even know.

Thanks for the link. App is a damn bargain and that's good because they have got me for probably the next 7 years.

Some of those numbers are insane. I believe ours will have to increase in the coming years because of our move up and the plans to enhance facilities but fortunately we have some room.GlassOnion wrote:it is NOT very easy to find the #s for JMU'S ath. fees, unless they've changed it. Exactly the point I was making at the time.appbio91 wrote: Some of those numbers are insane. I believe ours will have to increase in the coming years because of our move up and the plans to enhance facilities but fortunately we have some room.
The Committee came up with ways to raise App's budget to $24 million as an FBS school w/o the onerous being put on the students.
A $200 increase in student fees would net another $8 mill. a year, if needed, though a measure like that should remain a failsafe for us. Hopefully more revenue comes in the future to where we never have to go there.

but but but...according to some of bleeding heart students, our fees are too high and making college too expensive to the point of not being affordable. Give me a break, I'd much rather pay fees for sports than 99% of the terrible clubs/groups on campus.

I am a student at App and to hear students say prices should not rise is just dumb. I believe App is one of the cheapest schools in the UNC system (i believe) and lets all be honest for the education you get a App the price is way low

Re: VA College Student Fees
App has a very high success rate getting students accepted into medical school and other professional schools. Last year every student at App that applied to medical school was accepted. I just said 100% success last year students getting into medical school. That is a very competitive field and reflects well on how we educate students. As for the cost we are recognized anually by Kiplinger for cost value. I hope we can keep that status.3rd wrote:I am a student at App and to hear students say prices should not rise is just dumb. What Im finding says that over 7,000 App students receive financial aid in grants, with the average of that aid being $6,800. Does this mean nearly half of students pay nothing at all?

The fact is that they have a right to that opinion. For those who have no interest in football it is an added expense to getting an education. This is especially true of those who are paying their own way. Those clubs though have as much value to their members as football does to us. Although our fees may be lower than others they are still a lot of money. Have a little sympathy for those who may be struggeling.LKN_Lawyer wrote:appbio91 wrote:Thanks for the link. If it was unreasonably expensive, I think we'd see a dip in applications and enrollment.bcoach wrote: The fact is that they have a right to that opinion. Re: VA College Student Fees
I hope those students that are complaining are part of the solution when they graduate, the solution is giving back to the university. I believe the percentage that gives back to ANY program is less than 10%.

Re: VA College Student Fees
I would guess that includes loans, so it's not really the same as paying nothing at all. There is nothing close to 7000 students at App that receive average $6,800 grants/scholarships/etc that don't have to be paid back.GlassOnion wrote:What Im finding says that over 7,000 App students receive financial aid in grants, with the average of that aid being $6,800. Not necessarly. What is unreasonable for some is not for others. Elem Ed major VS Business major would be an example.GlassOnion wrote:If it was unreasonably expensive, I think we'd see a dip in applications and enrollment.bcoach wrote: The fact is that they have a right to that opinion. Re: VA College Student Fees
I've always thought of App's fees as motivation to get students to go to the games. It's like "Hey nothing to do, why not go to the game since you've already paid for it".
From what I hear it may not work (bball), but that's the way I always thought of it, because it's so inline with what you'd pay in tickets.
Plus parents usually foot the bill anyway and even with two kids at App now I still feel it's fair.
