I read where Scott Lampe and Roger Aiken were both ASU grads.

Still too many UNC-CH folks.

Lampe is a devoted App State alum. I doubt he misses many home football games. He will be an asset on the board.

Notice how much the "balance of power" is heavily weighted to central and eastern, NC; the way it ever was? Maybe someday on another planet, western NC will be considered to be a legitimate and contributing part of the Old North State.

Of course, that won't happen in my life time.

Lampe is also on the College of Business Advisory board, and has been for a number of years.

All of the schools in the mountains of NC are still looked down upon. If you don't go to, or didn't graduate from, God's gift of a school, otherwise known as Chapel Hill, then you're nothing in this world... or that's what most think.

I, for one, am tired of these Tarholes thinking that they are the one all, be all. What arrogant pricks.

Just give them time. Their towers are chipping away just a little at a time from their own acts of arrogance. Pride comes before the fall.

with scandels the last few years at Chapel hill, they have lost forever what they charish the most, "the Carlolina Way", they can no longer hold it over the heads of the other state universities, that they always do the right thing, and hold academics at a higher standards than athletics. Personally, I take great pleasure watching their ivory towers torn down.

I know Jim Nance very well and I bought my first new car from him. I don't recall his educational background but know he is a UNC fan.

The sooner the foundation underneath Chapel Hill crumbles, the better. I think it's about time that the UNC System has a different favorite. I'm not saying that App State would ever be that favorite, but having a bunch of arrogant pricks that can't seem to understand that being a Tarheel isn't the best thing in the world out of these offices would be nice. A little off topic but still tied to the BOG. I read today on Inside Higher Ed that an influential NC state legislator has mentioned consolidating some of the UNC System campuses to save money. Here is a link to the article:

Don't think App has too much to worry about. They have the third highest number of applicants behind CH and State. There is talk about cutting and/or consolidating some programs and degrees but since the Pres is coming to Boone in a week and a half to talk about App growing to 20,000+ students it doesn't sound like we're on the chopping block.

I think its a great idea, App takes over UNC Chapel Hill, and they become our first sat campus.

I would think that all the jobs lost would not be helpful for the economy in the area around a closed campus. In fact I could see it costing more in extra unemployment, increased need for social services, etc. for years to come.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

While this might be the best idea, some other good ideas could be:

-Make Elizabeth City State a satellite branch campus of ECU.
-Merge NC A&T and NC Central, give it a new name and minimize duplicate degree programs.
-Merge Fayetteville and Pembroke, give it a new name and minimize duplicate degree programs.

Bottom line, don't close down campuses, but eliminate a fair amount of upper administration and some support staff positions, and make some real reductions in duplicate degree programs that are somewhat close geographically (particularly if they are smaller degree programs at both places). The state could save some serious dollars and not do much, if any, real educational damage, IMO.
