Re: UNCC
After watching the ETSU game, I’m honestly just confused. We won decisively but it didn’t “feel” like it. At the same time, I can’t tell if we were just running a basic offense, getting our players comfortable, etc.
I don’t think I’ll be shocked by either a blowout or a close game. None the less, a loss is unacceptable and I expect a W.

Re: UNCC
All of the above applied I think. Everyone seems to agree that we ran a very conservative game, and with it being the first game of the season, our players probably didn't get used to game speed, etc. until the second half. If you remember, that's when the thing just sprang open and we took complete control. This was a great schedule opportunity to let the coaches and players feel it all out with no real fear of losing. UNCC game should be off to a much faster start I'd hope.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 2:01 pmAfter watching the ETSU game, I’m honestly just confused. Re: UNCC
Great post. It’s also certainly possible that ETSU is a solid FCS team. I know “A” doesn’t necessarily equal “B”, but it’s notable that this ETSU team beat Gardner Webb last year 45-0.StorminASU wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 3:11 pmAll of the above applied I think. Re: UNCC
I don’t feel good about this one ... 10 points or less if we pull out the W. If I was a betting man I would take the over. Don’t see our D stopping their passing. Hope we can score with them but just don’t have the confidence yet. Hoping we win.

Re: UNCC
It sucks this feeling I have. I just didn’t see enough to feel good about it from the ETSU game. That first half was rough. Granted it’s the first game. Hoping Coach was just doing enough to get the job done and we open the playbook up. They have a great coach and have some mo on their side. Our secondary will give up points. It’s going to be a battle.

Re: UNCC
I will say this about Charlotte. Holmes is a better RB than LeMay. ETSU’s OL and starting DL is better than Charlotte. We are just deeper across all areas. Fair point on Charlotte’s passing, but their receivers are not good. GW ad two picks that hit the receivers in the hands. I think we will be OK.

I agree 94 on paper we are better. I hope their wideouts don’t figure anything out and our DBs work out the kinks.
It was good listening to Drink today talk defense. I think he is going to be involved there as well as any HC should. Drink is going to be good just hope our learning curve isn’t too painful.

Re: UNCC
The only thing I saw from our team that gave me pause last weekend was the soft coverage/pass defense. It tightened up in the red zone (as it often does) and ultimately only let up 7 points to an FCS conference champ.
UNCC doesn’t have a QB that set himself apart in an entire off season. As football guys often utter: 2=0. Reynolds seemed to clearly lead their offense better against GW. That guy virtually played the whole game against us last year and went 12/22, 108 yards, 1 INT, and 0 TD’s.
They really cued in on our run last season and did a decent job stopping it. Then Zac went 14/14, 295 yards, 0 INTs, and 3 TD’s.
UNCc special teams let up a TD against GW also.
They used auditory signals at the snap against GW. That’s going to be a disaster if they try it at the Rock. I don’t know if Healy heard about our crowd’s reputation but I don’t expect he’ll be hearing much of anything on Saturday.
Even without Sutton, People’s, and possibly two more, UNCc doesn’t have the horses for this game. I’m not saying they haven’t improved or that we aren’t still growing with new schemes, but I think that Vegas spread will be pretty close to the final differential.

Re: UNCC
Captain Obvious breakdown:
The defense will not be able to “bend, not break” as much, because their kicker will put up points every trip down the field. Big game for the new corners. We can stop Lemay if they’re not completing 3rd and 8 passes all day.
On offense, expect them to try to stuff Evans and clamp down on Hennigan with their best corner. Time to open up the playbook with our talented RBs and Zac needs to be comfortable going to our receivers who aren’t usually our “go-tos.”
