The thing that keeps popping into my mind is the ILBs - many have noted on here that they were playing much closer to the line than in previous seasons - as I think back over the last several seasons I clearly remember Eric Boggs, John Law, Anthony Fluery, Jordan Fehr, etc.,just crushing receivers coming across the middle OR breaking up the pass OR intercepting --- the middle was wide open yesterday - I don't remember one passing down where our ILBs were involved -
Charlotte had a hard time executing the throws to the middle of the filed against GW. It wasn't really anything that GW was doing to them. It was just that their receivers couldn't catch it when it was thrown to them. A couple of the INTs were due to balls bouncing off the receiver's hands. I guess Roof and the coaches decided to crowd the line and stop the run since Charlotte had not shown the ability to operate in the middle of the field.
That's a valid strategy until it's proven that they can in fact catch the ball in the middle of the field. At that point our ILB's should have been in that space
Point taken but then you become susceptible to the run.
But my good friend - we haven't been susceptible to either to that extent over the last couple of years - we still have 3 of the very best LBs in the SB and I'm not excluding Cobb - I just haven't seen him as much

I understand you do things to try to force an opponent to their weakness but that doesn’t mean you just abandon trying to stop the other things. We did a pretty good job last year stopping everything. And I’m not just talking about UNCC. Look at the numbers, our D was dominant. I know we lost players but the guys who are stepping up already knew the scheme that we should have left in place.

Drink is probably the unhappiest undefeated coach in the country...let's give him to time to address the issues. I've got full faith that he and his staff will make the necessary adjustments.

He knew what he was getting into and if he didn’t we have bigger problems.

I inherently have an issue with blaming one person, and one person alone, in situations like this. Roof has a staff of assistants and I'm not hearing anything thrown their way. None of us were in the planning sessions for this game and none of the coaches execute the plays on the field or incur bonehead penalties. None of us were in the coaches booth or in the halftime locker room so we don't know for sure what happened.
I'm not saying that Roof isn't to blame and obviously he's in charge of the defense so it's his responsibility ultimately, but I think it's premature to jump to the conclusion that he's completely, and singly at fault. I don't know him at all but I do know that there was a bias against him from posters on this board from when his hire was announced. Drink is a highly intelligent guy and he had his reasons for hiring him. Let's let them do their job and calm down. Personally, I'm focused on a great game coming up in Chapel Hill.
I recall many, many posters on this board who criticized Satt repeatedly and consistently for his lack of play calling skills and now he's a multi millionaire coaching a P5 team. Similarly, Taylor Lamb was constantly put down by posters on this board and if you look in the record books you'll see clearly he was one of our greatest QBs of all time during one of our toughest time periods, our transition up to FBS.
There are those that naturally go negative and unfortunately they tend to be the loudest.

Very well said. Unfortunately, we have some really class-less fans and this was their opportunity to get loud. Its embarrassing to the school and the program, really (far more embarrassing and damaging that anything that has happened on the field) and they never seem to learn. Time has proven their panic attacks wrong over and over again through the years. This week, I think we have finally overtaken the Stink fans for idiocy.

Honestly, this is exactly what I am thinking. We've at least gotten on level par with Stink in terms of expectations of coaches. They have had some bad ones in the past and run them off, but they will turn on a coach faster than a bird can crap on a hood.

No one is happy with the product on the field from this past weekend (and to a lesser extent, against ETSU). Venting is fine, but starting with the for sale signs is asinine and an extremely bad look. It's also a really good way to get good coaches in the future to steer clear of what should be a really, really good job.
Give 'em hell!

Many have expressed concerns about what was clear to see with the defense - As far as I can remember no poster has really gone after a player/s for his/their play on the field - some talk about the play of the new CBs but not vicious - actually I thought the CBs had very good coverage on the 2 long TDs - so I only see fault in those who seriously want to fire Roof after 2 games - that is totally off-the-wall and does smack of some of the other programs for which we have little regard. I think the great majority of us have kept this discussion in the proper context ---

Speaking of class-less, I have to throw in whom I believe were current App students. One of our family friends who's a former student of my wife's came up for the game. He is attending the UNCC Engineering school and he came up with two of his suite mates for the game. Due to traffic and their getting a late start from Charlotte we weren't able to connect until dinner after the game and I was embarrassed by some of the interactions they had with our students. Nothing physical but definitely uncalled for. There's a difference between good-natured trash talk and being obnoxious and rude. Our young friend is a classic nerd who probably doesn't even understand the finer points of the game but he's embracing the college experience and pulling for his school's team and I hate that he left with a negative impression of his visit to The Rock.

Hate to say it but I saw it too, App fans being really obnoxious. My daughter goes to UNCC. She came to the games with some friends and sat on the hill. I actually had to leave my seat and go have a conversation with one of our students who was sitting behind her. It was bad enough that he was being a jack ass but she was actually wearing App and UNCC gear.

It's sad, and not unique to our school of course, but hate to see that sort of thing. You can have fun without being nasty. Hope your daughter still had a good time.

I hate that your friend had that kind of experience. I actually didn't see any negative fan interaction and I thought the fan bases mingled very well. We tailgated in a lot with several Charlotte fans and I saw numerous "mixed" groups. I'm sure there were some idiots though.

Man if I had not seen the game myself and just logged onto this board today I would think we just lost the worst game in the history of App Football. I was there Saturday so I know we did indeed win. Whew!

She did, she’s been to a lot of games at the Rock. She's can’t stop being an App fan.
