Shulman out at UTC

Shulman Stepping Down As UTC Mens Basketball Coach; National Search For Successor Underway; Casey Long Is Interim
Wednesday, March 20, 2013

John Schulman is stepping down as UTC mens basketball coach

Assistant Casey Long was named interim head coach.

He had one year remaining on his contract.

Shulman is expected to be paid the balance of his contract.

UTC officials said at a 4:30 p.m. press conference that a national search for a successor was underway.

Shulman had been named the 17th head men’s basketball coach at UTC following the departure of Jeff Lebo for Auburn. Shulman joined Lebo at Tennessee Tech in 1998 where they stayed for four seasons.

Florida Southern College head coach Linc Darner (older brother of former ASU wing guard Tige Darner) is likely the next head coach at Ball State. The two Darners are legends back home in Indiana where they played high school ball for their Dad, Alan Darner, who is also a legend.

Linc Darner played for Gene Keady at Purdue and made four NCAA tourney appearances with his team from 1990-1994.

Tubby may be looking REAL good to the folks in Lexington right now even after his previous stay there.

Going from NCAA Champions to losing in round 1 of the NIT on your home court to Robert Morris is probably pretty hard to swallow!

Actually, they played on the road because Rupp was being used for the NCAA tournament.

Jeff Jackson bites the dust at Furman. His 85-131 record in seven seasons didn't impress!
