For our school, who doesn't have the benefit of being in a huge TV market, we have to prove that we belong with the big dogs by beating them on the field. There were alot of positives coming out of the game against ECU but we really need to take the next step and start to beat these guys when we have the chance.
I could care less about the polls and actually I prefer not to be ranked #1 in the polls until the end of the season.

This is the first time I've attempted to do the quote thing, so I hope it come out okay.

Now, as far as the being given a "blow to FBS thing" because of losing Saturday, I find it hard to believe that the powers to be would see this issue through a tunnel. Then again, you're probably correct, they could care less and will go out of their way to stack the deck against us. How can the fact that we never have home field advantage, neutral refs, and 22 less schlorships not be taken into consideration, just doesn't make sense.

Let me remind some folks on board. Polls are extremely important at end of season for home field throughout playoffs. I prefer running the table from KBS rather than through places like Richmond and Montana. Don't kid yourself, the NC is much tougher traveling. Why do NFL teams cherish home field so much. Do the hard work early and it will help us win a NC.

Now I totally agree with JMapp on position in polls at this stage. This is actually a rebuilding year for us. My expectations are we continually improve from start to finish of season. We do need to win this week and take care of SoCon in a big way. It may take running the table in SoCon depending on other top 5 teams. Do that and we will have home field to TX. Otherwise, we may end up in ND, Montana or TX in semis.

Polls shouldn't be taken seriously until a month or so into the season.

The reason polls do matter, early in season, is if you are too far down it can be literally impossible to get to top 4 by end of season, regardless of how you perform later in season. And to be crystal clear, if you are not in top 2 at end of year, you cannot guarantee home field advantage. Remember, in 2005 we benefited from losses by higher seeded teams throughout playoffs. You cannot rely on that happening every year.

My concern is that we need to score more points, by whatever means it takes: less penalties, not making turnovers, etc. I realize that we probably faced the toughest D we face all year, but we looked pretty good minus the miscues. Scoring only 13, doesn't give me lots of hope, but it's only week 1. We have to be able to score more than 1 TD to win. Losing a senior rb doesn't help matters. I will looking for more offensive points at home against Montana as a signal for week over week improvement, at leat 24-27 shouldn't be out of the question this week.

100+ penalty yds + 3 turnovers + 1 offensive TD = recipe for a loss most weeks

I could care less if we are not ranked inside the top ten. Saturday's match up is no. 1 vs no. 2 in the country as far as I'm concerned.
