We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Attendance
Great result by the Mountaineers...though I'm a little confused by the crowd. We only reported 25,000...now I understand the weather delay, but shouldnt that be irrelevant? The game was already well underway.
I mean, this was the smallest crowd so far and not a top 30 crowd of all time...weird that we marketed this as a sellout so hard and made additional seating available. Am I missing something or was the team woefully in error in their projections?

Family Weekend, lots of younger folks, my kid starts to fade around 6, no way he could have made it through to the end. Probably a lot of parents with a mutual feeling.

Re: Attendance
Yeah that makes sense, but that only explains why people left early. Doesnt explain while "so few" people showed up...hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 11:07 pmFamily Weekend, lots of younger folks, my kid starts to fade around 6, no way he could have made it through to the end. Yeah. You could tell that there were alot more people in and around town that actually didn't end up in the stadium. I was surprised by how many came back in following the weather delay. My two kids were struggling, but as always, the followed through and cheered as loud as the could.

Absolutely no exit plan in case of emergency. Pitiful planning. Actually NO planning. Total lack of leadership.

Re: Attendance
Again that explains lack of people who returned but not why only 25k showed up initially. Weren't we expecting 30k for this game?

Re: Attendance
My wife and I had lunch with DougG and SuzetteM the week before the ETSU game. DG told us then that the CCU/Family Weekend game was already sold out then.
I stood in line in moderate rain at the HCC box office/will call window to pick up a prearranged ticket order for a friend a little after 2 PM yesterday. Several folks in front of me and behind me were seeking tickets to the game. An easily readable sign was posted on the window indicating the game was a sellout and that no tickets (not even general admission) were available.
The East Stands were only half-filled for the opening kick-off. I assume the weather threat was the reason. I wasn't surprised that so many left during the lightning alert. Folks with a two hour or longer drive back home just threw in the towel. I mean we live in Wilkes...35 minutes from campus...and we didn't get home until after 10 PM. Someone living east of Raleigh wouldn't have made it home before one or two AM if they stayed until the E-O-G.

I made it back to VA at 12:30 and did something I never do. I left with 4 minutes to go when we went up 56-30.

Pretty sure they tweeted out an emergency egress evacuation map on Thursday or Friday. Just saying

Re: Attendance
If the game was a sellout then the only variable was the student turnout. Either the students turn out in full-force and the final number goes above 30K or the student don't show up in "normal" numbers and the final count falls below 30K, our listed capacity. The only way yesterday's number was accurate is if the students simply didn't turn out, and it sure didn't look like that to me. Surely we're not going on tickets scanned because, as has always been the case, that's a terrible system. A family of 4 walking into the stadium in front of me saw the dad hand the guy 4 spread tickets...one was scanned, next one wouldn't scan, kid immediately gave up and waved the whole family past. To report numbers not based on sold tickets + student scan is to devalue your own product. We can all look around and see if the crowd actually showed up and used their purchased tickets or not, so you always report your sold/distributed ticket number and use the "maybe accurate/maybe not" scan numbers for internal purposes.

Re: Attendance
If you have a better plan, put it together and send to DG. Nobody fully expects to have to evacuate the stadium that quickly, or for that long. If you’re an expert in that area, do your part and support the athletics department by sending some suggestions.

The rain definitely kept some folks away. Interesting to see people trying to find tickets pregame. A lot more than I ever remember.

How about any/all of the red/grey/green coats line up from the stands to the exits and actively manage the flow, in unison with each other! They all just clumped together and basically just watched the exiting fans getting bunched up and clogged up at tunnels/under west side stands because there was not a COORIDINATED effort to keep the crowd moving! At the choke points, at the very front and continuing backwards, they needed staff to be pushing exiting fans to keep moving. The audio PA should have been announcing to the crowd that those in front need to keep moving as to not slow down the flow behind them.
I was actually worried about lightening strikes for the last 15 minutes I was stuck in the west stands trying to get out through the tunnel to the west side concourse.
You would think there would have been an even more enhanced plan in place then usual as part of the construction planning because of the now reduced egress due to the temporary constraints posed by the construction.
Also, the damn music should have been stopped, it made it seem like exiting was “optional”. Someone made the comment to me like it was hearing the titanic band play while the ship was going down.

I was very happy with the crowd that returned after the rain delay. The crowd that returned was vocal and into the game.

Re: Attendance
Stayed the entire game, stopped at Waffle House and got gas, still got home at 12:30 in Raleigh. I was extremely disappointed at how many folks left; what a fun game to watch and the weather, after the delay, was perfect. The only thing good about all that mess was the lines for beer and bathrooms were non existent and traffic was super light and we got out of Boone in record time.asu66 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 12:37 amMy wife and I had lunch with DougG and SuzetteM the week before the ETSU game. As for before the game, extremely odd. I get rain, but that was an hour before kick off; are 5-7 thousand people that wimpy, or are ticket exchange site snatching up tix and people aren’t buying them? Something’s off.

Re: Attendance
They kept on saying "please exit," and used suggestive language, nothing definitive. The first "you MUST evacuate" came when ushers went into the stands to tell the last few people to leave.
I don't understand why the last bit of fans weren't allowed to stay underneath the concrete west stands. It's literally safer there than many other areas. They could have sold a lot of beer. I heard the club level was quite the spectacle during the delay.
Also, they should have allowed the students to exit via the field earlier than they did. Would have alleviated the choke points. Good thing the storm broke up before hitting Boone, otherwise it might have turned into a stampede.
I had one couple that said they were threatened with arrest for staying under the west stands. That's not a good way to keep people coming back.
