Re: Top 25 Watch (real thread)
Eh, they're winning but I don't think they're a top 25 team. Four straight one-score wins over South Dakota State, Fresno State, Georgia Southern (who should've beaten them) and Purdue before blowing out Illinois.
They're one of those teams that might get to 9-3 simply by having a soft schedule and pulling out some lucky wins. Which, hey, respect for finding a way.
I didn't read the App reference as a dig, just a statement of fact.

Re: Top 25 Watch (real thread)
I know you are joking but that is an outlier so if it actually is more accurate we should win by double digits, based on this. I know for sure we are not a top 20 team based on how we have played. Missouri hammered South Carolina by what 20 or so. If we are better than Missouri then we should be able to beat South Carolina by 14-20 points for sure.ah59396 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:38 amclearly this is the most accurate poll:

I'm telling you guys the computers and the polls still are not accurate. Wait about 4 more weeks and then you won't see nearly as many upsets as we still do at this point. I'm going to start putting stock in where people have us around the 1st or 2nd week of November.

So if we know something is not accurate yet then the love is just about seeing our name on ESPN? lol. This isn't an ego thing. I just feel like many others on here do and that is worry about the games and don't stress over something until it matters. Same reason I'm not worried about our commit list in recruiting until close to early signing period. I know things can come in to focus in time. I'm willing to bet those who are most worried about where media has us are under 30 and/or never played football a day in their life. lolgoapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 3:26 pmGOOD GRIEF!!!!!! I'm not that old. I care about our national recognition. I just remember last time we were ranked when we were not quite deserving of it yet and we got embarrassed on TV. The only good thing that would come if we lose tomorrow is that people might shut up about it because they don't want to jinx it.yosef69 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 3:57 pmWe get it already! Serious question, if you were a voter and had to stack the entire country. How bad would we need to beat ULL to consider us a top 25 team? Miss State beat them by 10 and they aren't ranked. Would you say 17, 20 or more to feel like we have really earned that arrival? I want to be ranked badly but more importantly I want to deserve it.

Re: Top 25 Watch (real thread)
The additional media exposure ranked teams receive [compared to unranked teams] is HUGE, and would tremendously benefit our school, well beyond athletics.
First, as I explained above, it DOES matter now, because the sooner App is ranked, the sooner we receive valuable national attention that will benefit our school.
Second, The only person "stressed" here is YOU. Besides your asinine statements, the rest of us are having a nice, stress-free time.
Stressing over other people having a discussion seems like a waste of time, don't you think?

The one thing this thread was missing was specious use of the (hypothetical) transitive property. Miss. State isn't ranked because they are 3-2 with a home loss to K-State and a 33-point loss to Auburn.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 4:05 pm

As for your other darling Missouri, I don't know if we'll beat South Carolina by 20 but I'd feel OK about our chances of beating Wyoming, which Missouri couldn't do.
Stop cherry-picking other teams' best results to try and make your case that App is undeserving.

If you watch ESPN all day long then yes it does for sure. I'll take any media exposure that is good we can get. I just don't want to move up to 23 in the country from unranked and then lose by 20 the next week to a SBC team that we should run out of the stadium.SayYesToTheRock wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 4:10 pmThe additional media exposure ranked teams receive [compared to unranked teams] is HUGE, and would tremendously benefit our school, well beyond athletics.

Re: Top 25 Watch (real thread)
I'm not a believer in the transitive property. I know that even though South Carolina lost to UNC that they could beat us by 17. My point was if we are talking about what is enough for voters or us to feel like we clearly need to be a team to jump in the ratings what would we need to do at ULL.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 4:11 pmThe one thing this thread was missing was specious use of the (hypothetical) transitive property. The only reason I bring up Miss State is they won by 10 with over half a dozen starters suspended or hurt. That game was really more than a 10 point game but Miss State just let them hang around.
Missouri had the hiccup against Wyoming but unlike us they have chances against ranked or receiving votes teams to get respect. We simply need to win by a comfortable margin and can't lose to get national respect.
Look at what all we have done compared to ULL and ESPN still thinks they are the better team.

By that logic, you should hope App is NEVER ranked, because the ranking might get to their heads and cause them to lose.

We all know that is not the case always but last year between that and Thomas going down I do think that stuff got in the heads of our players.SayYesToTheRock wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 4:21 pmBy that logic, you should hope App is NEVER ranked, because the ranking might get to their heads and cause them to lose.
Just as the Michigan game brought a lot of bad with the good we got from it. The good outweighed the bad clearly in the long term view. However, I remember the week after that win we barely got to practice and Jerry Moore said they spent so much time in interviews that we did not prep like we should have. We were banged up from that game. It got in our heads. Cost us a couple wins that year.
Hopefully our kids ignore this ranking stuff because if they stay off social media and just ignore the outside noise I am pretty sure everyone on here knows we are talented enough to deserve a top 20 ranking by the end of the year.
