1. Rubino was the worst best thing to happen to AppSt football. His ineptitude to make chip shots kept Satterfield in Boone longer which helped develop the program. Had he made those FGs against Tenn & Wake Forest Satt would have left for another job sooner that he did.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Observations 5 games in (long)
Disparaging the past regime to pump up the current one is a common thing nowadays, but it's completely unneeded when it comes to App State.
I will fight anyone who says Satt was holding back App in any way while he was head coach.
If you say we scored too quick at Penn State, you're wrong. Special teams could have tackled the kick returner, we could have stopped 4th down, we could have better covered the receiver on the tying touchdown, we could have made the kick and we could have scored a touchdown in overtime. Never feel bad about taking the lead by 7 late in a game. And Penn State had to be pretty darn good to win that game.
Drinkwitz has his faults and he'll learn from them. He's too cute calling plays at times, he handled the UNCC aftermath with the defense poorly, he got way too conservative after the fumblerooski failed at UL this week. That being said, we're 5-0 with him and he's a big part of the reason we're 5-0. He could be a completely different coach in two years.

Satt did great things at App and for App. He is one of the main reasons we are where we are today and are able to have a top 25 thread. He did have his faults though. Drink has the chance to raise the program to an even higher level. He already got us the P5 win his first year. And I know unc isn’t penn st or uga. If he can pull off the win at SC that will be and amazing first season. It is still early to see if he will be a great recruiter and development of talent. This program has a lot of upside and a bright future.T-Dog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:40 pmDisparaging the past regime to pump up the current one is a common thing nowadays, but it's completely unneeded when it comes to App State.

I’m not disparaging the past regime but i will say a stark difference between Drink being too conservative and Satt being too conservative is Drink owned up to it after the game. Satt wouldn’t have been as frank. And he’s got too cute once, maybe twice so that’s nothing to point out as a negative - it happens.T-Dog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:40 pmDisparaging the past regime to pump up the current one is a common thing nowadays, but it's completely unneeded when it comes to App State.

And as far as UNCC goes, what did you want him to do and what did he do wrong? A mountain was made out of a molehill.

Satt also wouldn't have said "How bout that (Defensive Coordinator's) defense now?" after a win and at Mountaineer Talk that Tuesday? So that goes both ways.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 10:52 pmI’m not disparaging the past regime but i will say a stark difference between Drink being too conservative and Satt being too conservative is Drink owned up to it after the game. Drink refused to let the media (which is pretty friendly all things considered) talk to any defensive coaches the Monday after the UNCC game, saying they needed to work hard on the gameplan for UNC or something like that. And he brought up "negative bullcrap" a couple times showing it was getting to him. He needed to admit there were defensive issues and not lash out at fans for voicing their opinion.

It was the second game under a new regime, I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again - if you didn’t think there would be hiccups then that’s 1000% on you, that was to be completely expected. And I’m glad Drink semi-called out the idiots by commenting on the defense, he stood up for the man he believed in and the man paid him back Wednesday night.T-Dog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:09 pmSatt also wouldn't have said "How bout that (Defensive Coordinator's) defense now?" after a win and at Mountaineer Talk that Tuesday? There are some sensitive posters on this board. Nit picking every little thing. I guess it’s good y’all have the time and energy to spend on what was said and when and context and this or that.

That situation was so frustrating. We were all yelling at the players to turn around as the ball was being hiked.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:37 amI'm going to bring up the Florida A&M game from decades ago, just to induce some shutters from all those in attendance that day.App4that wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:12 amThis. There were many concerns when we converted to the 3-4 under Woody, and this was my primary one. I get having fresh legs and a quick rotation, but we used to look unprepared and often got caught with too many men on the field. I can't remember a specific situation where it really hurt us [intentionally not mentioning Miami here], and far be it from me to call the much-lauded defense of the past few years into question. Just didn't leave a good feeling.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 8:34 amFrom a defensive perspective, I appreciate that our players aren't looking to the sideline for a playcall while the other team is snapping the ball.
I know not all are sold on the current defensive schemes, but our guys definitely look ready when the ball is snapped.

Re: Observations 5 games in (long)
I agree completely with your sentiments above about Satterfield, but I also believe that Coach Drink's decision NOT to put the defensive coaches in front of the media was exactly the correct decision. The concept that the public has some sort of "right" to grill coaches on an individual basis about the minutia of a game is flawed. There was absolutely nothing good that would have come out of Coach Drink allowing the media to brutalize his coaching staff. It would have been like throwing chum to the sharks! As the head coach, he owned the issue and he handled the communication. I'm sure he will gain more expertise in these matters, but I find zero fault in that decision. It was a coach standing up and taking ownership while protecting his resources. They had a job to do and didn't need to spend time feeding the frenzy.T-Dog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:09 pmSatt also wouldn't have said "How bout that (Defensive Coordinator's) defense now?" after a win and at Mountaineer Talk that Tuesday? That game made me sick to my stomach. Couldn't believe what I was watching on the field that day. I was mad as hell.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 1:00 pmMaybe this link will work for the FAMU game? Click on the box score.

Unintended segue here. But the box score shows we had 6,800 in attendance. Man have we grown as a program. Can you even imagine having that type of crowd now, even in a down year?Black Saturday wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 1:00 pmMaybe this link will work for the FAMU game? Click on the box score.

Those thanksgiving playoff games were always sparsely attended until about 2006/2007.MtnMan09 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2019 10:54 amUnintended segue here. Re: Observations 5 games in (long)
No one is disparaging the past regime to pump up the current one. Chill out with your "I will fight anyone" nonsense. My biggest and, for that matter, only real complaint with Satterfield was his poor clock management in crunch time situations. He displayed it often. Recognizing a shortcoming does not equal disparagement.
Drinkwitz has shown great attention to detail when it comes to clock management. That's not to say he doesn't have other unfortunate weaknesses that maybe Satt didn't have. I think my post was very fair in evaluating the strengths and as-yet-unseen weaknesses of Drinkwitz. I'm glad to see that part of App's game cleaned up.
