Until we can gain some OL commits, this class can't be considered the best ever.

Can we maybe hold back on the “moving my needle” talk? This is a family website. Plus, there are some older guys on this board who may be offended because nothing moves their needle without medication.

We're 7-0 and the #21 ranked team in the country. I'd like to think that right there would entice a lot of talented players to come play for us even more than when Satterfield was coach.

Re: Can Drink recruit talent?
So you are saying the reason Satt didn't recruit 3 star players is because he didn't want to? Being ranked makes a big difference in recruiting and it showsT-Dog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 1:01 amWe haven't signed anyone and won't until December. Now, we've gotten commits from players that they would sign in December or February, but it hasn't happened yet. Pay attention.
Remember, part of the reason Drink is able to get commits that are graded a little better than previous commits is because Satt built the program with two- and no-star players. Don't disparage the past to make yourself feel good about the present.

Here’s the thing. Sure you can get players that want to come and “win”, but you have to get guys that want to be here for reasons outside of football. That is why Satt never took a kid that didn’t visit. The kids that don’t consider the entire package are the ones that leave of create discord.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 7:50 amWe're 7-0 and the #21 ranked team in the country. Re: Can Drink recruit talent?
Yeah but I think we're still a small enough of a school that you come here for other reasons. We're not an NFL mill like a B1G or SEC team. But we should be getting a little higher caliber of talent over what we have historically gotten. Especially in-state.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:09 amAppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:02 amHere’s the thing. This reply right here is why this board is terrible. We got a long way to go as a fan base.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 1:01 amWe haven't signed anyone and won't until December. Good golly miss molly. Have you guys even listened to the man talk. If he can’t recruit with his approach and enthusiasm nobody can. I seriously doubt he brings in questionable kids and we all know how magical our school is. Just get visits and you get signatures.

Guys if you arnt interested in the thread don't comment. This is a perfectly legitimate thread. Some of you are so ridiculous..."just focus on south alabama" "1-0 each week" my lord, he doesnt have to do that.
I personally am way more focused on getting a good win vs South Alabama than worrying about recruiting, but everyone stop being so crazy. Its like this on every thread. Y'all attack the poster because you dont care or disagree with the topic. We are all Mountaineers. Act like it.

Re: Can Drink recruit talent?
I didn’t take his comments as disparaging to Satt. The fact of the matter is that that is a valid point, albeit using flawed information. Recruiting rankings and the point system is a joke and completely subjective in nature. Satt and staff were excellent at evaluating for needs that would help the program. Just as the results prove out. Whether this staff can do the same remains to be seen, but in my opinion, this staff is better in terms of coaching ability than the last one. What the last staff lacked in experience, they made up for with passion.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 1:01 amWe haven't signed anyone and won't until December. Disparaging the past? Where do you come up with this sh*t? Some of you guys are crazy. Sorry I didnt get the exact wording correct between commit and sign, but its pretty funny how you knew what I meant and for some reason you had to correct me on an anonymous forum. As someone else said, you are what's wrong with YC.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 1:01 amWe haven't signed anyone and won't until December. Your undying love for coach satt is bizarre. I can be happy about the present and still be grateful for the man. However, he is no longer here.

Re: Can Drink recruit talent?
I have no doubt we will get them. Here is the thing though. We can't say a class is the best ever until 4 years later. We can just now appropriately rank our 2015 class and get a good iddea on 2016 now.
Satt had a couple classes who turned out to be duds for the most part but we got stacked from two groups. Only 8 players from 2015 really panned out and stayed. One of them is a draft prospect with another program now. Alex Taylor. 2016 and 2017 have produced some studs but there are a few players in both of those classes who are doing well at other schools or who just did not pan out.
Sadly, less than 50% of a class is truly going to pan out. If we ever get to where 75% of our class pans out to be like Gaither, Thomas, Hennigan, Sutton, Hannon, Johnson, etc then we would be a top 10 team.
Bottom line is that of the 16 we have now we will most likely only see 6-9 of them truly pan out to be real good players. If we have anymore than that then it would be the same as hitting 2 grand slams in a baseball game.

I'll be here for basketball and baseball season to, so I'll continue being what's wrong with this message board year round.
