Re: (Afternoon) Classes need to be canceled Thursday for GaSo
Tailgating or not I would encourage all who are going to be in the stands early so they will be as full as possible for TV at kickoff. I think for a weekday prime-time national TV game that is more important than a few extra minutes of tailgating. The Band of Distinction would appreciate it too. Games like this are more about the atmosphere in the stadium than the pregame festivities. There will be more eyes on us than usual.

........I mean, I love app state football, buts it’s not just Appalachian state Football, it’s appalachian state UNIVERSITY. There are Labs that cant be made up and legitimate academic concerns to just cancel class on a whim. Faculty are more than welcome to cancel class for their own reasons but to force everyone is not in the best interest of the school.

It’s maybe 1 day every 2 years. They cancel classes for 1” of snow or wind now.BTK2000 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:23 pm........I mean, I love app state football, buts it’s not just Appalachian state Football, it’s appalachian state UNIVERSITY. It’s an electronic world. We could get assignments via computer for 1 day.
Are we really devaluing someone’s education by cancelling 1/2 day of classes 2 times in someone’s academic career??

As someone who teaches an afternoon class at Appalachian, I have to ask why? My class is over at 4:45 and the game is at 8. I'm as big a fan as there is, but I care about the U in ASU.

Come to mine after class. We barely have time to grill much but we could prolly feed one more. Duncan lot at the corner of the bldg nearest Broome Kirk.
If classes were canceled as they should be, more students could attend the game. Size matters.

Re: Classes need to be canceled Thursday for GaSo
I’ll respectfully disagree here. Certainly Appalachian is an educational institution, but that’s just a component of it to me.
The things that bind us all as students and alumni aren’t just that we shared classes. Otherwise why not just be a collection of classrooms and nothing more? The colors, the mascot, the songs, heck Boone, all make Appalachian what it is. And the same for our shared experiences. Across generations I might add.
Appalachian is a cultural institution. Academics are an important part, but not the only.
Cancel classes and let the university celebrate its achievements.

It can be if you have evening science labs that meet once a week.

Science labs should not be virtual labs, especially as a university.General Moore wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:50 pm♤♤This man is correct.♤♤The Rock wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:30 pmIt’s maybe 1 day every 2 years. appchicago wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 3:24 pmJust got an email that there'll be no Yosef Club Hospitality Room for the event, since they can't reserve the dining hall on a weekday. I can't make the trip up myself, so this doesn't impact me personally, but is this the first time they're sharing this information?
(It actually said "Dinning Hall," but I'm not going to crucify anyone over a typo.)
Yes, this is first communication regarding the “club room”. I completely understand not displacing students but how do you not think of this prior to today. Big time ball drop.

I feel like we can save time by cutting and pasting this thread every other year that there is a Thursday night game.

Re: (Afternoon) Classes need to be canceled Thursday for GaSo
Sorry, this just sounds unbelievably arrogant/entitled. Current students are paying tuition to attend classes; Alum's aren't. Which students can't come to the game because classes aren't cancelled? Only ones that both have classes that meet at 8 or later, and choose to attend them. I hardly think that's a number worth talking about.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:57 pmFor alums tailgates. I believe this persons opinion is the only one that matters. Everyone else seems to only care that academics are cutting into their drinking time.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:44 pmAs someone who teaches an afternoon class at Appalachian, I have to ask why? Re: (Afternoon) Classes need to be canceled Thursday for GaSo
Can't wait for the afternoon teacher above to make up all those days that are missed b/c of snow. This is an absolute joke. You are telling me they have known this for 6 months and this is the best they come up with? Don't give me that shit about "this is an educational university first" "they pay to go to class". Guess what they also pay "athletic fees" lots of them. It is ONE day. The lots are open at 5 during the week, so by not having the lottery it will not be a full on free-for-all at 5. All the "academic" first people above I can't wait to see you demanding for professors to be fired for canceling any class during the year (had plenty of them during my 4 years that I paid for those classes). Looking forward to see you show up and demand that.
