Reality Check
Tonight was the reality check we needed. We aren't a top 20 team. We aren't going to the NY6 bowl. We aren't going undefeated this season. We can't be complacent with our success. We can't rest on our laurels. We have to keep moving forward. We have to get better each and every game. #WeAreMountaineers

Re: Reality Check
Well we could have been had we chosen to have a great effort from the Qb online, pass catchers and kickers. Don’t leave out the d line and linebackers . It was an incredibly poor effort all the way through the team loop. This was a totally embarrassing effort by ALL involved

Re: Reality Check
This is a reality check. Going 12-0 is hard. I doubt more than 3 FBS teams will end the regular season undefeated.
We are going to another bowl at the end of the year. Which in reality SHOULD STILL be a big deal for our program.
We earned our ranking and could end the season ranked.
Finally, we were not going to a NY6 bowl. A one loss AAC team or Bosie St. would have found there way ahead of us. I wish we could have a rankings conversation without it automatically turning into a NY6 convo. The former is reality, the latter is not.

Re: Reality Check
Hopefully we can salvage a conference title. Another appearance in the New Orleans Bowl wouldn't be a bad thing, especially if the CUSA Champion has the guts to play us this time. We're all disappointed over last night but it is still GREAT TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!
Re: Reality Check
Well its possible, but its going to be tuff. We still have Georgia State and Troy to play. Troy is down this year but still has game in them. Georgia State is the one that really concerns me. Those guys beat Tenn earlier in the year and just hung over 50 on Troy in their last game. They are for real this year.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 8:17 amHopefully we can salvage a conference title. Re: Reality Check
It was a tough road a couple of days ago also. The only difference is that now we have to rely on some outside help (GS losing) while taking care of our own business. That's no small thing, but it puts us exactly where we were last year. GS still has to play those same teams, and history would indicate that they are less likely to sustain their intensity. I think they will stumble. That's why they play the games. Nobody should be giving up or acting like our season is over.mgsouth wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 8:34 amWell its possible, but its going to be tuff. We still have Georgia State and Troy to play. Re: Reality Check
While our NY6 goal is gone our conference goals are still there. GS still has ULM and G State at home and Troy and Ark State on the road. Stink has a solid team but i dont see them winning all four of those games. I believe we are more talented than the teams we have left and as long as we dont have another performance like last night we will win out and get lafayette again at home for the conference championship. It will be interesting how Drink gets the team to respond after this loss.

Re: Reality Check
I could see us win out from here if we bounce back with determination. If we don’t I could see us get embarrassed again next week and maybe again by that other Georgia school. Will be a wild ride from here.

Re: Reality Check
We lost to a likely bowl team. One that has given us fits for decades. We also still have 11-1 and another conference title in play. We have the chance at TWO P5 wins in one season. There is so much still to play for. And it's not like 12-0 was a guarantee for the Cotton Bowl. We never were in control of our own destiny in this. We would have needed help from other teams to get the Access Bowl slot. And now we get to see how Coach D. handles getting us ready for the next game off a loss. There is a lot of opportunity here.

Re: Reality Check
NY6-no longer on the table
Conf Championship-we will need help on.
Bowl eligible-done.
I am concerned with USC and Ga. State, we were exposed last night and will have to bear down to win out from here.
Very disappointed but that's the way seasons come and go.
No need to throw blame on players or coaches. Just hope they all learn from what they did not vs GaSo the last 2 years.

Re: Reality Check
I'm not looking for a "fight"' but what was exposed last night? We needed soooo much help to get in the NY6; that was never realistic.Yosefus wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 9:32 amNY6-no longer on the table

We are and have been, for years, a pass-first offense. The wind was like giving GaSo two extra safeties (not an excuse). The two third quarter runs they broke accounted for a quarter of their total offense and over half their points.
We can't expect to go undefeated; that's not realistic.
We're good, real good. Good teams lose every week. If our expectation is NY6 or bust, that's unrealistic. Only one ACC program can think like that. Anyway.

Re: Reality Check
We were never going to a NY6 until we had a lot of help anyway. My hope was that it could happen and I felt like we could have that type of year but we still needed a lot of help if we went 13-0. Now there is so much that has to happen it would be a stupid waste of time to even think about it.dtrain4prez wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2019 9:21 pmTonight was the reality check we needed. We still have a lot to play. We just need a little help with winning the SBC now. It would be a shame to finish 10-2 and not win the league. Hopefully GSU takes a loss over the next 2-3 weeks.

Re: Reality Check
Two things I was looking forward to seeing over the next few weeks. (Not happening now)
1. Where/If the CFP ranked us Tuesday night.
2. Kirk Herbstreit talking out of both sides of his mouth. He keeps giving Georgia credit for “slipping up” with South Carolina. He would have been yelling over ranked to the top of his lungs had we “slipped up” against South Carolina. After we beat South Carolina we can start looking to be ranked by the end of the year.

Re: Reality Check
We are still in the running for that bid. Of course we need to win the conference and need some help, but to say that we no longer a contender based off of one bad game is a defeatist mentality.

Unlike the past two weeks, something tells me we'll see a completely different team come next Saturday!spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 2:04 pmTwo things I was looking forward to seeing over the next few weeks. (Not happening now)

Re: Reality Check
I am not sure we got exposed. Honestly I am not real sure what team showed up Thursday night. If SC or the rest of the belt thinks that is who we are then they are wrong. Now there are some things that are still concerning such as defense. Also it is very much like Roof had never seen the TO before. It is like we never prepared for it. I think the O and the kicking game struggled with the weather. Defense can’t lay claim to that excuse. Two big runs in the third crushed us. You can’t come from behind when you are playing a TO option team due to the clock.
Now we can still win the conference with some help. Our main goal is to win the Sun Belt and a bowl game with class and integrity. We are getting ready to find out how good Drink is. Thursday showed that he was not ready for the GaSo rivalry. He learned a lesson. Now let’s finish business. It could be worse. We could be state fans.
Oh and I don’t think we beat SC if we are undefeated. Playing pissed off might help there.
