We need the Cajuns
This is another “what if” thread, so be warned.
If you plan to run in here and remind me that we need to go 1-0, save your breath. I agree. So for the sake of this conversation, assume we go 1-0 each week until the SBC. We have to take care of our business first.
That said, we need the Cajuns to dominate these next couple weeks. They’ve got USA, Troy and Monroe. 3 very winnable games that would put them 10-2 heading into the SBC.
What are the chances they would be ranked? They are already receiving votes in the polls. They’d be a 10 win team with a loss to an SEC team and a ranked App State.
My perfect scenario is the Cajuns roll into Boone on Championship weekend ranked 23-25. This has been a season of firsts for the Sunbelt and I’m definitely hoping we see another first. A ranked battle for the SBC crown.
We can’t carry the SB alone, no matter what we think. Rising tide, etc. The Cajuns have a heck of a ball team and I think they’d deserve the accolades and a chance to get beat in Boone as a ranked team.
But boy would that help our resume.

Re: We need the Cajuns
It sure would, but I have to tell you, I'm a little nervous about having to face them again. It's tough to beat a team twice in a season over and over again. Also, we didn't dominate them the last time...we won but it could easily have gone the other way.
But if they were ranked it'd be a barn-burner of a game for sure!

They scare the hell out of me. That’s a good ball team down in the bayou. Would be quite the display for the Sunbelt.Rick83 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 11:21 amIt sure would, but I have to tell you, I'm a little nervous about having to face them again. Can't see them being ranked. They're not so much "receiving votes in the polls" as "receiving vote in a poll" - one point in the coaches poll.
I completely agree about hoping they run the table, though. And I think they will.

Re: We need the Cajuns
We need the Cajuns to get ranked too (if not this year, next). It'll happen some day but having 2 ranked Sunbelt teams at the same time is another big feather for the conference cap.

Re: We need the Cajuns
The Cajuns are playing well but they've got two fairly tough games left against ULM and Troy, both of whom have been up and down this year so you never know. They also have South Al but that should be a W. There could be a 3 way tie in the West, ULM, UL, Ark St...
...and obviously we need to take care of business.

Re: We need the Cajuns
I think there's a chance it happens. Here's a look at the bottom of the top 25 right now (CFB Playoff rankings)
16. ND - 7-2- - Navy, BC, @ Stanford - Probably winning out
17. Cincy - 8-1 - @USF, Temple, @Memphis - Would have to play Memphis a 2nd time in the AAC championship
18. Memphis - 8-1 - @Houston, @USF, Cincy - See above.
19. Texas - 6-3 - @Iowa St, @Baylor, Texas Tech - Good chance they lose at least 1, probably 2, and fall out.
20. Iowa - 6-3 - Minnesota, Illinois, @Nebraska - Good chance they lose at least 1 and fall out.
21. Boise St - 8-1 - New Mexico, @Utah St, @Colorado St - Most likely to win out of the G5 schools, should have to face San Diego State in the conference championship
22. Oklahoma St - 6-3 - Kansas, @WVU, Oklahoma - Likely to lose 1
23. Navy - 7-1 - ND, SMU, @Houston, vs. Army - I see at least two losses there
24. Kansas St - 6-3 - WVU, @Texas Tech, Iowa St - Don't know enough about them tbh
25. App St - 8-1 - @Georgia St, Texas St, @Troy - We winning out fam
Lot's of probable losses in that group. I know others are in line before LA-LA but it's definitely possible they sneak in after a few weeks of bottom 25 bloodbath

Re: We need the Cajuns
We do need to get our offense firing on all cylinders before meeting the Cajuns again. We've had some great games, but I still don't think we've had a game where all phases were at maximum.

Re: We need the Cajuns
Still a quarter of the regular season remains and a lot can change in 3 weeks. Even if the Cajuns win out, they would need lots of help to sneak into the top 25. I'd love to see it happen for both programs as it would make the SBC game that much more intriguing and push the MAC & CUSA further back in the rear view.

As long as it isn't The Stink, I'm game. If Georgia needed an enema, they'd insert in Statesboro.ah59396 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 11:09 amThis is another “what if” thread, so be warned.

Same as last year going down the stretch, if we'd not lost to Ga Southern, then we'd been likely sitting in the low teens.ASU2012 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 1:00 pmI think there's a chance it happens. Here's a look at the bottom of the top 25 right now (CFB Playoff rankings)

Time to give them a nifty slogan and spam AP voters.

We absolute should. We have a pretty decent social media presence, we should utilize it to our advantage.
A ranked sunbelt championship would look great for all of us.

Re: We need the Cajuns
It won’t happen and here is my rationale as to why. At this point, the only poll that matters in the CFP Playoff poll. There is a less than 1% chance that a two loss G5 team, outside of Boise and the AAC, gets in. The only reason that we are in is due to being 8-1 with two P5 wins.
